new sql setup

Umm I don't know where you heard that a ported box only boosts at one frequency but it's wrong.
A ported box plays a range of frequencies, the loudest ones being above you r boxes tuning frequency and then they peak off so many Hz above the boxes tuning freq.

Also bandpasses can be made to boost output in a wide range of frequencies, not just one.

*Edit* To the original thread starter...

The MTX 9500 series woofer is an SPL subwoofer and I have heard that their SQ is almost non existent.

W6's are nice

I was thinking of picking up one or two RF T215's

How bout DD 3515's (been thnkin bout those too)
------- I understand that a ported box can reproduce (with the sub) a multiple range of frequencies-- that was not my point...

in my experience a ported box is just too boomy because of the tuned frequency range it is designed to re-produce at maximum output. My Apologies to you sir, if my comments and opinions were mistaken.

I completely understand this forum and its members are/is primarily more into sPl tha sQl and my opinions are probably regarded as ignorant because I am a woman AND I like accurate and solid reproduction that a/my sealed enclosure gives me.

HOWEVER.... I am old enough and HAVE seen the childhood and pubescent growth of an amazing industry. MY OPINION on the matter was to simply state to this gentleman, looking for ideas, that I BELIEVE if SQL is his ultimate goal (and space saving) then a sealed bx would better serve him.

and yes... a sealed box may not hit the same spl, with the same power applications, to the same equipment, however...you will still have an amazing amount of bass in a properly designed enclosure/system.

thank you-- and good night! LOL! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm not a big fan of the term "SQL" anyway - it's a compromise. You're giving up SQ for SPL, how much you give up is up to your tastes.

However, you can make a ported enclosure relatively flat and good sounding - I've got the e12a.22 currently in a 27Hz-tuned enclosure, and while it's not the last word in LFE, when attenuated to blend with the front stage it's as accurate as it needs to be.

That being said, a sealed enclosure is often times all you need to make your front stage useless //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Diamond D9s get loud and sound good in my ex, but its going to be crazy loud in a truck. I've heard both the 6v2 and d9s and I went with the D9s mainly b.c price, but basically the 6v2s sound better and the d9s get louder.

Hey...i will have 1 12w7 for sale soon. I had 2 12w7's in my intrepid, but i sold the car. i am going to put 1 12w7 in my new 300c. I live about 1 1/2 hrs from you...let me know.
