Because it's hugely overhyped.

If ECA wasn't down/gone, werewolf had a great thread discussing the differences of the cases.

Being "TO3" won't inherently make it "better".

Like everything else, they have advantages and disadvantages.

It seems the T03 transistor has typically been part of a pretty strong design to begin with, thus making it seem like it has some magical properties. But, as always, that depends on who you ask.
