new setup opinions/suggestions

first of all hello. i am new to this forum. i have a few questions about a new setup...

i had what i thought was i nice setup in my previously owned '95 civic. jl audio 6.5 components in the front, jl audio coaxial 6.5's in the rear with a hollywood soundlabs 1600 4 channel powering them. hollywood soundlabs 1000 2 channel powering the 2 12" excursion subs. it sounded very powerful but would distort in the lows at high gain. so i kept the sub gain at about half most of the time. interior sound was very clean.

now i am planning a setup for my 2002 civic. i am using a jl audio 300/4 for the highs/mids and a jl audio 500/1 for the lows. i am thinking Morel hybrid ovation 6.5's up front. CDT Eurosport GOLD Braxial 6.5's for the rear. i am undecided on the sub. i am going with 1 12" this time. my choices right now are the jl audio 12w6 or the Dayton 12" Reference HF.

i am unable to actualy listen to Morel or CDT's in person. and i listen to a wide range of music including live recordings.

any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

the only thing i'm worried about is not running enough power to the inside speakers i'm thinking of going with.

NEVER TURN GAINS ALL THE WAY UP!!!! Gain is not a volume control, it is input sensitivity. you were clipping your amp and you are lucky the amp and subs didn't blow!

Agreed with the gain comment.

I personally wouldn't use rear speakers in the way you are using them. They tend to mess up the front stage. Some people can't live without them though. I would start with fronts only and then move up to rears if you don't like what you are hearing. Keep in mind one great set of components up front will pretty much beat a four way set with tweets in the back seat every day.

I also wouldn't run speakers I haven't heard in person. If you have no choice, Morel is a very fine choice but there may be better ones out there for your listening style and you won't know until you try them on.
