New Member, need veteran advice

Hello all, I am glad I found this forum while searching the world "wild" Web for components and advice.

I have been on other types of Forums before and hope I hit the right topic forum..etc..etc..

Anyways..here it goes....I am 31 years old and in my youth I had all sorts of ground pounding systems and vehicles..but it's been a while and I am way out of the loop of current Culture and technology. I have a 1992 GMC Ext that is finally being completed as a show/street cruiser. FINALLY it is time for the Stereo ( I have had Stock since it was bought new). I am shooting for a clean,loud but stealth system..the goal is to look stock not to be in any magazines or win a sound off.

I realize I will get MANY conflicting opinions on what I should do ( I already have)..but for now I am going with Stock speaker locations (probably 4" by 6"s front and rear?) Pioneer 7500 head set a MTX amp (probably 6304???) but I am lost on Subwoofer options??? I love the whole concept behind the MTX thunderforms..but it seems too tame for me..yet 2 12's in a custom box is in my past. ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS ON ANY ASPECT OF MY SET UP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED...

Should I get another amp???

Should I get the Thunderforms with a diffrent Sub in it ( I hear the MTX's are not so great)???

Is it really not worth it to use stock locations instead of seperates in doors ( I have limitations with this!!)

My Sub question is the biggest problem..and remember I am on a $2000 budget....I don't "thump" anymore..but I still listen to Rap...but I also listen to MOBY..(sorry I'm getting old).

I will listen to all of your opinions..especially because I know your not selling me stuff and your mostly non bias. I don't know who else to ask!!!!

Thanks JMAC...yea... I am flirting with the Idea of 4" in front with seperate tweeters. In fact I have seen that Fosgate makes a seperates system recommended for this..item # FNP2414.

So Thunderforms are limited in depth huh!!!! interesting..just the type of advice I need to know that I am in the dark with. My biggest hurdle is "depth with everything I am doing. I thought I had my speaker choice made with infinity Kappa 4 by 6's until I found out I could NEVER make them fit!! it's ironic how the more I try to keep the truck stock looking..the less options I have!?!?!?

OH YEA!!!!! I forgot...a so called "expert" told me

"Why would you go with 4" in front instead of 4" by 6" that has more surface area"...I replied "don't some 4" have higher RMS ratings"...HE LAUGHED AT ME???

What do you guys say to that!..because I have gotten the 4" recommendation from others?

i used to have a 93 S-10 blazer and i got a pair of infinity kappa 4x6 plate speakers to fit and they sounded great and and it still looked original.

i'd go with a good 4 channel or 5 channel amp.....amp your mids they will sound so much cleaner.....deck power is nazzzty.....with the 4 channel you could run your fronts off of channels 1+2 and 3+4 coulc be bridged to a sub.....then run your rears off of the h/u.....or the 5 channel and amp everything....

I really like the Alpine T450 ..but is Alpine a good bass driving amp?

well my buddy has a 96 sonoma rolling on 18inch boyd coddingtons with a 4/5 drop.....and a dope system, i'll see if i can get pics

4x6 speakers tend to distort in higher power situations (30+ RMS) whereas a good 4" speaker will usually produce clean midbass up to its power rating. The more an oval speaker travels, the more the cone flexes and the more distortion is produced. A round cone does still flex, but it doesn't flex as much and it flexes evenly around the cone, so less distortion is produced in the midbass.

I think it's unfair to lump all ovals into that category. Cone flex depends on the pliability of the surround vs stiffness of the cone materials. Not all ovals are created equal.

well, you can get a GREAT well rounded system on a $2000 budget. My choice...which would sound great...and still have that bump would be...

Alpine 9815 (shop around online...around $400 or less)

CDT es-420 4" 2 way components (http://www.thezeb.com 02 model $430)

U.S. Acoustics usx 2100 or 2150 (http://www.thezeb.com $160)

2 elemental designs 8a's (http://www.edesignaudio.com $400 for both shipped)

$1675...make your own custom enclosure...perhaps under rear seats. And these 8's....they are WANG i own one myself and they WILL get low and of course have great sound quality. Give them like .5cubes each sealed and you'll be very happy. I didn't give rear fill b/c i don't thinks it's really needed...but you have $325 left over to maybe pic up a nice midbass set and small amp for them. Also, perhaps some sound deadener.
