New install. need some input

Ok, well im in the process of planning a new install. Since i like my current setup, just desire more...im doubling up.

I will be running two 20.1s strapped and 4 DP 15s. But i have a few questions and yes i've searched and im still in the process of searching. But figured i'd start a thread just incase someone can answer before im done searching.

First off, how do you properly strapped the 20.1s. I saw a thread where some guy asked... but the - to master amp and subs or what not got a lil confusing. And i need a jumper RCA from BR out on the master amp to BR in slave amp, correct?

secondly, this is a daily install. System will never be cranked with car off. So would a 200amp alt, Big 3, Yellow top under hood, and yellow top in rear suffice for my needs? Or would i need two yellow tops in rear?

Along with my searching i came across box rise. In the past, i never really paid any attention to it, but im wanting to do this install as perfect as i can. And if im not mistaken i remember being posted the box rise is mostly from large enclosures. This is one subject im still searching, but what defines large. Large meaning just plain ol big. Or large meaning, going above and beyone the airspace recommended for your subs. Im planning on doing atleast 4 cubes each tuned to around 35hz or so.

Well these are some of the questions off the top of my head. I'll continue searching, but if anyone could be any assistance to me its much appreciated.

I should also add that the amps will be strapped at .5ohms. And if box rise is indeed just plain ol big boxes period...would two seperate enclosures work better to cut down box rise? Im confused with that

ha, as im thinking about my install as a whole... i might as well add, my comp set is not loud at all. I dont know if im expecting too much from my comp set and with my current set up, it doesnt keep up with the two DP 15s at all. But at times, when i have the subs completely off, it still doesnt get too loud. But the crossovers flash as if its getting too much power and the gains on the comp amp is barely up.

I guess im wondering if i was expecting too much from them. since they seem to be getting enough power if the xovers flash.

something may be shorting out is the xovers are flashing

have you deadened youre doors? check your head unit settings, you could have volume offset all the way up, or something to that nature.

i have the same problem, but its the opposite-sub dont keep up with the mids and highs, but im only feeding it like 450 rms, so i cant expect much i gues

on mbquart xovers, they flash to let u know they are being stressed. So i tuned everything right before it starts to flash so im not stressing them.

I havent deadened my doors yet, but that was going to come once i start the install. Just figured it should be louder. Dont get me wrong, its ok....just not what i expected. Far as clarity though, its great. Just lack some output

The subs negative post will go to the slaves amps positive terminal. The subs positive post will go the master amps positive terminal. 1 RCA cable will go from the master amps BR out to the slave amps BR in. A piece of speaker wire will go from the negative terminal on the master amp to the negative terminal on the slave amp. This is used to complete the circuit. Only the master amps controls will work.
The diagram in the manual is great to look at while wiring it up.

Sundown SAZ1500Ds strapping procedure. Should similar or the same steps for a 20.1

Just build whatever box you want to. Unless you know a TON about box design, which I dont, disregard planning for impedence rise. There are so many variables that unless its pure SPL, theres no purpose in planning for it.

Usually the put bulbs in the crossovers to prevent you from feeding the components too much power I believe. The bulbs use the excess power, unless you mean like LEDs.[/QUO
Yeah, thats right. Im referring to the bulbs. So im feeding them enough power. I guess i was just expecting too much. Squeak, can u help me with my other questions also?

woah.
its karl.

what kind of car will you put this in?! hopefully not another trunk car my friend!!

nice to se you around these ways again!!!
Its good to see u man. Where have u been these days? Oh no, its definately not in a trunk car. the two 15s was hard enough trying to squeeze in there. This is actually going in a explorer. Had to change vehicles for my bass needs

Naw its definately not pure spl. Not trying to squeeze out ever .1 db of this system. Just making sure i plan this setup out properly. Thanks for all your help though man. Its much appreciated

Yea, with 4 15s and 4000+ watts, 2 set of components with about 400 watts per door would be the least needed I would think. Also, usually crossovers have a power limit they can handle so if your going to use the same components and add power, make sure you dont exceed their limits.
