new install. need help

hey, just had my MTX 12" 5500 sub and my MTX 600xd amp installed in my 97 camaro. its in a custom carpeted sealed box that fits JUST right in the back of my car. when i start slammin i can smell the system. kinda hard to describe the smell, but ik for a fact its not smoking or anything. im just wondering if the smell is because im close to blowing something (my amp is 600wrms and my sub is 300wrms, but ive heard of ppl putting 1000wrms to a 5500 before) or if it is the natural smell of the sub or carpet. when the system has been turned off for a while and i stick my face on the sub, it smells the same....so im not sure

I not an audio expert but it,s probably the sub breaking in I always get weird smells when i install new subs but it goes away after awhile

lets see 600wrm to a 300wrms sub ..... the smell might be the glue holding things together melting or it might be the coils frying who knows. the rms rating is what it is on that sub for a reason.

can it take more? maybe but when going that far over rms you MUST know what your doing.

how did you set the amp gains?

what ohm config is the sub and at what ohm level does the amp put out the 600 rms.

i didnt install it. i went in the audio store and told the guy i wanted a 12" sub in a custom built enclosure for a camaro. he picked out what i could afford, and installed it all. he told me it sounded good and was fine. when i got in the car after he installed it all it smelled the same way it does when its thumping.
