New HDTV - questions follow

Correct, the xbox360 will pass 1080p over components for games, but not movies only 1080i.(HD-DVD) This is due to HDCP.
maybe that's just with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray branded movies, because i've watched downloaded movies in HD over component cables on the xbox. and i can get 1080p over component cables from other sources.

When did the HD-DVD manufacturers start turning on HDCP in their releases. When the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 was released HDCP was not turned on for this very reason. The original Xbox 360's did not have HDMI.

When it was launched, it still didn't output 1080p over components, just 1080i. The update for 1080p when out over a year ago. Now it's 1080p over HDMI only.

If you have a 1080p tv, and you send it a 1080i signal, your tv will convert it to 1080p.

ok, only a very few tv's can accept 1080p over component so unless you have one of those, this conversation is useless and since he listed his tv it's only 1080p over hdmi.
Mhm... Exactly... So, I wouldn't pick a TV b/v of that factor...

Toshiba's, Samsungs, and Sony's are all great TV's (Samsung makes Sony LCD's... fyi)

Toshiba will be the least expensive of the three, Samsung generally the most...

I like using optical audio... Also Denon makes a NICE receiver, and Klipsch makes kick *** speakers... Onkyo general has more "options" than the Denons, but they don't compare in SQ....
