new guy with $1,000 needs help.

I would go with high end pioneer for the HU and components. Somewhere in the neighborhood of like the new 800 prs. The TS-C720PRS components one pair in the doors and one pair in some kick pods. And some TS-D801P coax for the rears. Parallel the fronts on the front channels of a JL450/4 and run the coax on the back channels. Then for Subs a JL HD750.1 on a kicker solo-classic. The airspace requirements on those subs is so little you can do a 10 or 12. Get a descent 1/0 amp kit and a little batt for the back. Do your big 3 get a little bit of soundmatte for the front doors and rear deck. And you will be very happy. [But im not gonna lie this is way over 1k. But for a good SQ system keeping it under a grand even with online prices is gonna be hard no matter what anyone says.

Why recommend it if its way over $1000? Also, why 3 sets of speakers? Just over complicating things. The coax are going to do nothing but color the overall imaging and sound of the c720PRS. $700msrp for his sub amp? I'm also pretty sure when he says SQ, he really means he doesn't just want some loud thump mobile, but a combination of loudness that's still going to sound good.

Just read the review for the PGs here: http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/caep_0709_phoenix_gold_rsd_65cs/index.html They look pretty good and am highly considering getting them. If paired with the right amp How high can you push them before getting distortion?
I've seen some of the x-overs start o melt from higher wattage applications (100rms). I personally probably wouldn't feed them more than 75w after seeing those, or make sure you get a full warranty through crutchfield.

I'd look into the ID CTX comp set, i think like $180 new off woofersetc. I think they were recommended earlier. How much for the deck you were looking at? Also, are you more concerned with overall sound, or do you still want decently loud bass?

I'm still wanting decently loud base as well.

The decks I am looking at are either the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X693 for $170 (link) or the Clarion DXZ785USB for $170 (link)

Hey everyone,
First thing, sorry for the long post. I've been visiting these boards for a few months trying to get some knowledge about car audio and it has been a big help. I'm looking to do my first "real" system. Back in my teens, I've done what most have...throw a few subs in the trunk and call it a day. Now, that I'm about to hit 30 (now i feel old) I'm looking for a well rounded system that sounds good up front and out back. I've read many threads but still need some specialized assistance. I'm hoping I could get some help from everyone and hopefully can return the favor to someone else in the future.

I'm looking for a SQ setup which will go into a 99 mustang which currently has the standard 4 speaker setup using 6x8s. The music I mostly listen to is alternative, rock, and classic rock. I have a budget of $1,000 I'm willing to part with over the course of the build. I would like to start with the HU and move my way back and finish with the sub(s). Needless to say I need much help with picking the equipment. Please keep in mind that I still consider myself new to the car audio scene.

So far, I'm looking at the Kenwood Excelon for the HU. For the speakers, I would like to get some components and was thinking of getting these Alpine SPR-17S. I'm not sure what amp to power these with or if there is a better route to take and i must admit that i am completely lost when it comes to the sub(s) and subwoofer amp. I would like to have the subs to hit very hard while maintaining the sound quality if it's possible and am limited on space.

I know this isn't very much of a start, but that's what I'm hoping you all could lend me a hand with. Thanks for your time and input.

EDIT: Here is my current installation that came with the car.

HU is a Sony CDX-GT10w, Speakers: Stock 6x8s, Amp: Lighting audio , Subs: 2x Total Mobile Audios. No matter what I'm sure the new system will bump harder and give a cleaner sound, at least i hope so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I stopped reading at the 10th post since it wasn't worth reading by then, so here's the deal........

First, quit looking for a "Best Buy system" (sony, lighting). Second, if you really want to get your money's worth buy into some nice raw old school. An Orion HCCA, Autotek Mean Machine, Hifonics circa "the 90's", or egg shell Fosgate Punch DSM from fleabay can be had for a nice price and leave you plenty of money to go to your second important piece, the head unit.

Amp Budget - $200 Anything Zed made from fleabay will do.

Head unit, buy for your needs. Do you need MP3 capability through flash drive? Do you need ipod integration? Do you need double or single din? etc.....

Head unit budget - $300

Subs for alternative and rock, there's a few choices. IMO you can't get a better sub for the job of rocking out in the price range as you can MB Quart DVC tens on ebay for $65 each. 12's for $75 each

Sub budget - $150

There's a lot of good mids that jam, but some need high power to really get rocking. Mids that do well at low power are Pioneer, Ample Audio, and Kenwood.

Mids budget - $100-ish

Add a small crossover such as the audio control 2xs which can be had used for $35.

You are at $785 and you have a need for a mid amp so find another small zed amp for $100 to go with your sub amp.

Still under $900 and you have assembled a system that, short of the mids, should sound better than most any budget setup because you are using above par stuff, just buying smart. Take the extra $100 and throw a Farad cap or two in there. Now your components are covered for under $1,000 like you asked for. This is using a fairly expensive headunit, per say. That can be cut in half and the money used elsewhere.

Good luck. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Did you really just tell him to go buy a farad cap??? Shame on you! Very bad info right there. The Zed old school amps are great thats for sure, but I would cross a big X through that last post and act like i never even read it.

Lol, ^ shoulda known caps are like baby killers on this forum.

Also just throw in my .2 cents, Take the advice about quality. My first system was junk and i regret ever buying it, cost me close to a grand and I couldve had a system that was Infinitly times better for the same price had I known wtf I was buying. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME you'll thank yourself later.

You shouldnt really have any voltage problems with the setup your looking for but if you do shouldnt be bad maybe throw a hc600 or 800 in there should solve things but it seems like your gonna be below 1500 or even 1k watts in the end.

Some people still like the imaging sound from the back. Thats why I said 3 sets of speakers. And how is that a loud thump mobile. I guarantee, in fact if he saved his money and bought the setup I stated. He would probably put an extra 300 miles on a week just driving around to hear his system. And if you pay msrp on your items well enough said you prob think junk sounds bomb. I have never seen a loud sq system ever add up to under or right at a grand. Even if bought used. I would rather save and get something truelly satisfying that you not gonna say well " it will work for now until I have money to upgrade". Get it right the first time and its much less of a hastle and easier on the wallet.
