new car has a stock amp what do i do

i want to install an after market HU its got a 4 channel amp somewhere in the dash. im pretty sure its just connected directly to the stock HU through the wiring harness. would it work if i used line level converters on an after market HU to connect it to the stock amp and then use a pre-amp to a separate amp for a sub in the trunk?

It would be best to try and find a wiring diagram specific to your vehicle if you can before proceeding.

Depending on the vehicle, sometimes there are wiring harnesses that can be used to go from the aftermarket head unit and still utilize the factory amp.

They usually feed factory amps with high level speaker outputs directly from the HU. Shouldn't need any LOC, just a wiring harness.
