Ok so I decided to get another 12" and to build a box for it. Got the box plans in the Free Plans thread. I didn't want to go overboard with the design because it was my first attempt at building a box. Most the skills came from my dad who is a pro at working with wood and MDF. Box is a 3cu ft enclosure with a slotted port. Ok, onto the pics (iPhone, not the best quality).

Testing the fit of the panels, slight sanding to even out edges and we'll be good to go.

Box screwed together no glue or bracing yet, just making sure panels fit after secured.

Applying braces to the port area.

Priming the vent area before paint. Box will be carpeted but the vent won't be so I need to paint it.

Really strong and solid at this point.

Sanding.

Measured for subs. 3 screws sunk in too deep to the MDF so I had to glue the area and then sand it flush. A minor mistake that won't be seen after carpet. It's really the only blemish and for my first box I could care less. It's strong and weighs a ton without the subs in it. Can't wait to get it carpeted and everything wired up. I'm going to use 8gage wire. Anyone have any suggestions on what to use as a grommet to seal the wires up so no air leaks out.

I did preview post when I first made the thread and at the time the pictures showed up. Appologize for the [x]s but I fixed the problem hosting them elsewhere. MobileMe is not CarAudio.com friendly, apparently heh. Anyway, enjoy!

So we're commenting on your dad's box building skills.
On the contrary, my pops was the one who showed me how to properly use the tools and techniques of the trade to build a nice box (he built cabinets back in the day). I never really built a subwoofer box, or any large enclosure before so he was the one who helped me along in the process. Without his help it would have been a crummy box for sure and a complete waste of time/money/effort.

I'll be putting in 2 Kenwood KFC-W3011's in the box. I know, not top of the line or anything but it fits my budget and already have 1 in a $20 walmart seal box. Should be a great improvement in the quality and clarity of the bass sound.
