New battery needs to be charged?

I'm looking for advice on what to do about my battery situation. I started to notice some problems with my electrical, mainly voltage drops (details can be see in this thread http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169092).

I figure my brand new Optima Yellow Top would outpreform my old POS Kirkland battery, but it's not providing enough voltage. My amp is now stuck in protect mode, and I'm guessing new batteries need to be charged even though their new... I came to the conclusion that my battery needs to be charged, although the bastard is brand spanking new. Any experts out there that knows how to properly charge a battery, and if it's nessesary for all new batteries to be charged.

sounds to me like a problem in the voltage regulator and therefore causing an insufficient currently supply to the main system which will in turn cause and undercharging effect whether the battery is new or not.... most likely what you need to replace is the diode trio inside your alternator and possibly the positive current output terminal inside, which is surrounded by a groupe of electrolytic capacitors, and those sometimes leak causing a corrosive aciditic type of discharge that can melt copper leads and therefore interrupt proper current flow from the discharge port to the main positive current regulator.

Have you had it sitting for a while?
Daily Driven....

The alternator is stock and is pretty small, is it possible the alternator isn't strong enough to charge a battery of this magnitude? I rather not put a new alternator in because my car is a POS and it needs to go soon...

Problem solved fellas... The ground was a little loose, so I tightened it. Problem solved. I apoligize for consuming your time, but thanks for all your help, and besides... you guys got some free posts :p
