if you say budget is $1000 theyll tell you to buy 2 $300 subs & a $400 amp.

you still need wiring, deadener, & a box.

dont spend more than $5-600 on subs & amp if your budget is $1000 so you have enough cash to get everything else you need.

I don't agree with the single 12" recommendation, but if those 1500's were repaired correctly and are legit, pretty nice deal..

Why is everyone recommending he get a 12" or two? He's got a Denali XL. A good quality, entry-to-mid level 18" and then whatever amp is going to be more cost effective, not to mention EVERYONE has 2 12's. A 15" or an 18" would fill out that trunk with a much better look, IMO... Plus, 1 sub = less work for him to do on his first install. Even if it is marginally more simple / slightly less opportunities for a mistake, I think its still a bonus. 1 Cutout, 2 coils, more options for box dimensions needing only 1 woofer on the baffle... I think he should go with an 18".

^^^Exactly. A single 12" in a Denali? He's not gonna be happy. A single 15" or 18" is my vote. OP, I'd say see what kind of deals you can get on an amp in the 1500~2000 watt range, and then pick a sub based on your leftover budget, but don't forget about wiring and the box.

Keep in mind I'm from an SQ and practicality school of thought, so I'm thinking find a decent, powerful sub under 200 that plays well with proper amplification that doesn't take up all of his cargo space. If that's not a concern I think a good 18 would suit him well.

I was trying to find the link to that sale, but am on limited resources here at work. I think he sent the amps to db-r for repair.

1 good condition ~1000w amp is going to be under $300.

Wiring is $100.

That's $700. He can build a box himself, or I'm sure get one on here, and have plenty for deadening and a case of beer to celebrate his first successful install.
