Need to get back into a truck/suv, any suggestions before I begin my search?

I need some $, and some space. I'm tired of moving around my band equipment with my friends truck, and I could use some extra $ for the bills these days.

I could probably sell my car for 10~k and pick up a Jeep, Durango, Dakota or something to that effect for around 4500-6000

I'd like a v8, because at that size, a small v8 will get the same gas mileage as a v6 model.

Any suggestions as to what else I should look into? Explorers? Any Nissans, or Toyotas?

Thanks guys.

Coming from a fullsize standpoint i've enjoyed the two tahoe's i have quite a bit. You could get a 99 LT for around that coin.
I'd be open to fullsizes, As long as they don't get sub 10 mpg, I'll be fine.

If gas stays below 3.00 a gallon, I do not mind getting 15-20 mpg.

Friends wife says gas will still down for awhile and she works for an oil company, but never know for sure I guess.

For those prices unless you really hunt, you won't get decent miles for that price. I have looked at a ton of SUVS for around 6 to 7k and can't find many under 100k for that price.

really? (in a non smart ***, disrespectful tone) lol

I've just began browsing yesterday, I found a dakota with 81, 89 and 76 thousand miles for 5100, 4800 and 5900. Maybe prices are different in our areas?

Older dakota's and Durangos I have found for that price, but anything newer style won't be that cheap unless you are very lucky.

I am thinking of checking on this one R/T Durango for 5900. Has 100k on the clock and is clean! I just would hate buying a ride with that many miles on it, all for it to take a crap on us soon. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My Tahoe is at 167,xxx miles and this beast still has a strong engine, no leaks, weird noise, lose of compression, etc. besides regular maintenance I havent had to do any repairs on the engine. I DID have to rebuild the ****** at about 150,000 but it was only 900 bucks. I have seen plenty of Tahoes,Sierra's 1999-2001 style up here going for 5500-8000 with about 100k-130k

See thats the thing.

My acura's repairs are so **** expensive:

Rebuilt ****** 3-4000

T-belt, water pump- 1200

Valve adjustment- 600

all coming up in the next year or so (minus the ****** lol)

What kind of mileage do you get on your t-hoe.

i know you want a v8, but the s10/sonoma/blazer's vortec v6 is good. i get 20+ mpg, and am sitting at around 225 hp. they stopped making the s10 in 2004 and switched to the colorado/canyon. i really like the chevy v6. mine has 100k miles on it, and still zips around like new.

I'll take a peek at those, I always liked those...Zr2? I think it was. I'm not sure. lol.

I'm really hoping to score a 4.7L dakota club cab for 5-6k Hopefully that will work for me. lol

those dakota's are nice. and yes, the zr2 is the 4 wheel drive s10. mine is only 2 wheel drive. for whatever reason, the 2 wheel drive s10 comes stock with 195 hp. the 4 wheel s10 comes stock with 205 hp. i put on a k&n cold air intake, and a high flow exhaust, and it made a pretty big difference. it's kinda fun to drive.

My car now is fun to drive. Too fun. I'm gonna get myself in trouble. lol and its fwd. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/sick.gif.b1847c8dabbfeeddbcf1a78052249e10.gif

I'd love to pick that truck up right there. That would be ideal for me.

My 200o Grand Cherokee with the V8 is the shit. I picked it up fully loaded for $5100 our the door. The power is very surprising to me and anyone who rides with me. Jeep is awesome anyway......very easy to work on and parts are everywhere.
