need tips on first box build

ok how do i attach the pieces together? i remember someone saying lay down a layer of sealent along the edge then press the board being attached to it on it and use drywall screw's but wouldent that cause the wood to start chipping + splitting?

I normally cut everything, lay it out to make sure it fits, then glue a panel up, clamp it. Then predrill the holes and screw it together. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

pre drill and counter sink your holes. nothing looks worse than having a big a$$ piece of wood sticking out the side from were you split it at. mark everything out and prefit before you drill anything. it will save you head aches in the long run.

this is what i do. first make sure everything will fit before i do anything.next get 2 peices vertically to support a side or back,lying flat. then put wood glue on the 2 peices. place the peice of wood on the glue and adjust it a little till perfect. let it sit and not move for like a min of 2. drill the 4 corners install 4 screws. and put one in the middle.then u will be able to find out the rest

ok so i should just go ahead and glue the pieces together first (like bottom/side , top/side , port/bottom... ect... ect...) and then once there dry and already held together then i go ahead and predrill , then drill the screws... should i use the same width of screw when predrilling + go as deep as the screw is , or should i make it a bit skinnier + not as long so the screw has something to hold on to?

the bit should be the diameter of the shank of the screw( shank is the body of the screw, not the threads). dont drill further down then the length of the screw

no, you need to screw it together while the glue is wet. this is what makes your glue bond strong. It also helps pull the baffles tighter together while the glue is wet/drying to make a better seal.

stay away like 1.5"-2" from the corners to avoid splitting, too.
