Need some quick HELP!!

I added a cap to my existing setup and for some reason I then had a TON of altenator whine. I took the cap out, put every single wire back the way it was originally and still have the whine. During the cap install I blew my inline 100amp fuse by the battery.

I opened up the amp that runs my 4 door speakers (Crunch Powerzone 1400) to see if maybe one of the little capacitors in there blew or something, and visually cant find anything wrong.

Can anyone think of what possibly could have happened? The only thing I can think of is when the fuse blew (I think I may have touched the positive wire to a ground somewhere, dont really remember) it caused something else to blow and thus is giving me this insane whine. Any help would be appreciated>

Do you have a Pioneer Head unit? If so, you could have popped the Pico fuse. Search around this site for how to ground your head unit RCAs to get the whine down. You could have also fried any noise rejection circuitry in your power amplifier if it was still connected when you grounded out the power wire.

OTOH, you could have blown a diode in your alternator when you grounded out the power wire. That would ****, but could potentially be another source of your noise.

*cry*

That would ****. *cross fingers*.

Yes, i have a Pioneer head unit, but just ordered a new HU last week, should be here in 5-7 days. So i guess at this point I will just wait until the new deck arrives and see if that resolves the issue. If not I will have to look into the amp or altanator. Is there anyway to test or check the amp to see if that is the issue? Thanks for the quick responses!!

One way to test the alternator would be to check for AC voltage at the battery while your vehicle is running. IIRC you should have .5 volts AC or less with the alternator charging.

As for the amp, you have any friends who would let you test it in their vehicles or any installer buddies who can do the same? That would be the fastest way to rule it out.

Then again, chances are you popped the Pico fuse. I swear that thing blows if you look at your head unit the wrong way.

Yeah, but I did miss the fact that his capacitor should have filtered out any AC line noise produced by the alternator.... Oh well, I can't get them all:eek:
