Need some help with my setup... 2x JL 12W6v2 & Kenwood x1200

Basically I bought the subs with the fact that I was giong to get a 1 Ohm stable amp in the future. I did get the Kenwood Excelon X1200 which is stable to 1 Ohm but I blew up the first one so I dont' want to run it at 1 Ohm any more.

My other option with the two subs is to run them at 4 Ohm's with is WAY too underpowered.

I can run one at 2 Ohm's which is decently loud but I'll need to get a box for one 12" if i go that route so I don't have a un used sub in my trunk...

So my question is, should i consider selling the 2 12's and maybe getting 2 10w6's or something that I could wire the pair to 2 Ohm which should be about the right amount of power. (please tell me if you disagree)

Should I think about just getting a different amp for the subs?

I listen to a lot of electronic but also like Rap and such so I like to get the punch but also love to be able to hit those deep notes that makes your hair feel funny...

Please let me know if I should include any other info. I built my box to spec with what JL was asking for volume wise but I'm giong to measure it all again and make sure its right.

FYI, I adjusted the amp and Line In Converter a bit and it sounds a good bit better on just one sub at 2Ohms. I really hate that I don't have a head unit yet but I'm going to have to replace EVERYTHING audio in the car once I do that... Down the road I'll do a 2din Kenwood w/ navi and door speakers with a nice 4 channel amp... Just trying to get by until then.

Sell the Kenwood. Some amps claim to be 1 ohm stable, but cannot hande it. Get a BXi1610d. It will handle 1 ohm and remain cool while doing it.
I dont' just want to go for loud tho. I like good sound quality and sharp accurate bass. Not to mention that amp is discontinued.

AQ1200d is $249 shipped straight from Audioque and is 1200rms @ 1 ohm. Stays cool' date=' does rated, good amp.[/quote']
Hum, never even heard of that brand.

how did you blow the first one up? what were the gains set too on the amp?
Gain was set to .1 but I ran it pretty hard for a while before. When it blew I hadn't pushed it in a while. It just stopped working and I noticed one day.

So what, if it is discontinued!!!! It is better than that Kenwood. You are underpowering 2 subs with that amp. That Kenwood is not a higher quality amp than the Hifonics. If I installed it, you'd like the Hifonics better than that Kenwood. I know there are better amps than Brutus, but from your post it seemed like you didn't want to spend any money? That Brutus will handle a hot summer day chillin in the trunk of a car, the Kenwood will start heating up! My homeboy has a Discontinued Bxi2607d on 2 12w7's, and it sounds good. I know what I'm talking about because I've heard w6v2 and w7's on 1000/1's. JL amps sounded better, but not $300 better! I guess you're telling me you would buy a new Kenwood amp over a discontinued RF T10001bd? Well, good luck with whatever you decide.

Hifonics is definitely better than Kenwood, but still not a great amp...

Might be the best choice for the OP though, because those Brutus series amps are practically bulletproof. A bit overrated (1600 series does about 1200), but can take abuse all day long...

Yeah I realize I would be underpowering them if I were running both. I'm only running one tho so it sounds great how it is. The Kenwoods generally have better sound quality than some of the others so I hear but I am here to learn so correct me if thats not the case.

I mentioned that it was discontinued becuase I'm not sure where I could buy one if I were to choose to go that route.

I don't have a problem spending money at all if its the right equipment for me. I don't know where you got that idea. I got the Kenwood amp at a recomendation of a friend. I got a great deal on it so I will not have lost anything if I end up selling it. It does sound pretty good tho when the power is applied correctly...

Never said i'd buy another kenwood at all so I'm not sure where you got that idea either...

0.1 volts?! And you wonder why it blew?
? I wasn't aware that 0.1 is out of the ordinary. It was only about half of the way up on the dial.

My amp only goes up to 0.2.

Any deck won't have preouts with a lower voltage than 1.8 or so.
