Hello everybody. I actually just got my Pioneer AVIC-Z1 installed and the unit is great but I'm not liking the job the installer did on the dash kit. I would like to get everything flush and even. Could you guys please help me out in this and how I would go about doing this? Also there a scratch on the right side that I need to fix. I'm assuming I will need this to fill in the gap at the bottom correct? http://hzemalltechnologies.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_22&products_id=31

Also the top of the kit is not completely flush so I think I will need to make it thicker. Can I use the same product for everything? Anyway help meoujt with some instructions including how to put the material to make the kit longer on the bottom to fill in that gap where the climate control is.

Also I would need to push the unit further back about 2 inches. Im assuming I would need to drill new holes in the bracket? Anyway I have never done aything like this before so I would appreciate some help. Thanks guys. And here are the pics:

Oh and the vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Maxima and the kit is the Scosche kit.

I would like to get it to look like this:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=423249

The guy used the same kit but different navi. Nevertheless Im having trouble figuring out why my kit appears to be smaller (since there is a gap where the climate control meets the kit) than the one in the pics above which seems to fit perfectly.

that install looks like ass. did they cut the opening in that kit? it kinda looks like it in a couple of pics.

The top where the kit meets the vents is pretty shitty too.

I hope you didnt pay for that install...

Wow man , did you have to trim to make the hu fit ? the sides around the hu look really jagged. The liquid plast will work. Just make yourself a frame THE SAME EXACT SIZE AS YOUR HU out of scrap to slide into the trim panel. Put some tape on it. Then a little pam to keep the plastic from sticking to it. Then use the plastic filler to fill in the gaps. Once the filler is dry pop out your wooden frame. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

no offence that looks like a half *** job... take it back and tell them that you paid $$ alot for a Z1 and it looks completly shity and not flush, the ac vents dont look like it match's.

It was actually dont by djfrestyl on this board and he will not do any more work on it without me paying him more money. Also I can not even post anything about this on the maxima forums because the moderator threatened to ban me. So I am on my own, and yes I paid for the install and he refused to re-emburce me for the kit even.

Anyway on a lighter note, I did order the new kit but I will really need your guys help with this since I have never done this before. The opening does have to be trimmed to get the naci to fit. How would I do that? I got myself a dreemel tool with a sanding bit and practiced on this kit and it is too hard. Someone on the maxima forums suggested sanding by hand (before the topic was locked) so I think that is what I will do. Is that the best method?

Also I needed to drill new mounting holes in the maxima brackets to get the headunit to move back and be more flush. The thing is it is realyl hard for me to measure where to drill the new holes. I drilled 4 of them already and they are not lining up. I just cant seem to figure out an easy way of where to drill the holes. Any suggestions?

that is a haggard *** install bro....he needs to fix it for you..although after looking at that i wouldent let him touch my car at all...just take it to a reputable pro and have them install it the way you want....

D@mn man, didn't know you payed someone for that. Who ever needs to get out of the business. Anything paid for should look a he!! of a lot better than that. I haven't messed around with any of the newer maxima's But if you put up some pics of the kit itself when you get it. And ideas of what you want to do. We would be more than happy to help ya out my brother. I hate seeing people get ripped by hacks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

**** bro.......

I think you should post bad feedback about him for doing busines in a very crappy way.

in the end, its about customer service, and the best thing to do would be to refund you the money, for a job that you are not satisfied with.

Hey Rod why don't you tell the whole story?

Like how it was our agreement for the HU to be the "freebie" install, or how you kept adding and adding components to the install and being stingy about the price, or how we both knew that modification would be required and that for double din's, Scosche is a piece of sh!t kit for the maxima. The kit we used was a trial, if it didn't work, you knew that something else would necessary, such as the highly suggested GXE kit. When we were talking about fitment, I said I'd try both sets of mounting holes, and if that didn't work, then we would go from there. The z1 does NOT have maxima bracket-friendly mounting holes, and drilling the bracket was never an discused. The reason the job was so chitty, was because I Knew that the kit was a lost cause without a LOT of modification, which also, again, was not included in the price.

There is no reason to give this kid any money back, because the HU install was FREE.

And for the record, the reason that the threads are being locked on the Maxima forums is because this guy pesters EVERYONE, will never stop asking questions.

::insert reference for 9+ thread for a SUBWOOFER SUGGESTION::

::insert fact that after all that discussion, you still don't even LIKE the sub::

Two sides of every coin. I am a very capable installer. I know the kit does not fit well, and I know I FUBAR'd it. Would you have preferred I called you at 3am when I opened the package and just saw how it fit and didn't even attempt to make it fit? Would that have made you happy? Probably not, because the people that know you, know that nothing makes you happy.

edit: should we also mention the REST of the work I did on your car that night?

there are plenty of people who have this kit look good. I didnt tell the whole sotry becaus eI am tired if they are interested they can go to maxima forums and read up on it. The Head unit was not a freebie install so I dont know what you are talking about. And if you thought that you could not do a good job with the HU install with the amount of money you asked me to pay you than you should have said it require more money....

Also you said that I would get fitment with the scosche but not exact color match and will get a gap with gxe kit. Its right here on this forum. I chose the scosche for fitment and it turned out to be an exact color match but no fitment...

And I ask a lot of questions because I was a newbie to car audio and did not appreciate when people say just alisten to person A and trust whatever he says. I spent a lot of money and wanted to know what I was actually buying. And I had no idea this was a trial kit are you crazy? I had no intentions of getting a gxe kit. This kit can be made to look perfect. Not to mention the gxe kit costs 10 times more. I told you I wanted this kit and to do whatever it takes to do it. Then you told me your price, we negotiatied and settled on a final price. IF you felt you could not do a good job with the final price you should have told me so. This install reflects your effort. And if you admit you "fubared" the kit you should re-emburce me because I paid $$$ for this kit. And I am very happy with the sql, but the first thing you see when you get int he car is the HU that I spent so much money on and it was just unacceptable. HOw kid any1 be happy after an install like that after spending so much $$ on everything?

In terms of drilling the brackes never discussed? I told you to do watever it takes to make it good.... Anyway pelase stop doing this to my thread and stay on topic if you want to help otherwise get out of this thread. Thanks.

In case people are curious about this and have a lot of free time here are the links to the 2 threads on maxima forums. But please let's keep this thread clean of any arguments and please contribute if you can help me out please because I am really having a difficult time with this and I took everything apart already. Thanks everyone.

By the way the fitment was so bad that one of the screws to hold the dash in place behind the ash tray was not used! Only reason I found out is by taking it apart and realized I am missing one of the screws! I inquired about it and it turns out he didnt use it because it did not fit and decided not to tell me about it, great. I think thats a good why to treat a customer right. Anyway no more posts about this please unless it is relevant to the topic all the info you need if you are curious are in those two threads. Thanks. But please lets focus on topic because you guys are my only chance.

Thanks guys. I am scared to take it to a pro now because I see how dificult it is to get it to work out to be flush. Plus I spent soo much money already on the Z1 and all of the components I really dont have any more money to spend on an install and risk it not coming out good. I ordered the new kit it should arrive next week. But right now I am trying to get the mounting holes correct so that I can move the whole navi back into the dashboard a little which is becoming extremely difficult. I hope that you guys could help me because it seems that if I post another thread about those on maxima forums I might get banned and I dont want to risk that. Thanks everyone.

EDIT* Any1 know any1 good around NYC and Long ISland? I really dont know any1 here and drove 3 hours to get this installed the first time... But I Really need to make this thing flush and seeing as how you guys are awesome here I hope you could help me do so.

By the way here is the link to the pic of the dash kit.

why would they do something like that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

honestly dude, i've read the threads you posted on that maxima forum and... are you serious??

it sounds like this dude did alot of work for you, for very little money, and just installed the scosche kit for you because its what you had... and it sounds like EVERYONE knows the GXE kit is a better fit and color match...

not reaslly. Its not wehat I had. I actually posted a thread about it here which kit I should get and he himself said that the scosche kit will have better fitment while the gxe kit will have better color. Plus the kits the I saw I didnt like the gxe kit because it creates a gap while the scosche does not but you do have to "play around" with it more. I Also told him that he would have to send the scosche to make it look good and he said that he will figure it out... Anyway could we PLEASE stay on topic? I really dont wanna talk about this anymore because I am just too upset at this point. Thanks.

Plenty of people have the kit look good, none of which are in your situation. slickrick has a single din (which is what the kit was designed for) Igor has the AVN (which has different mounting holes)

Anyone else I'm missing? Didn't think so.

You may have gotten fitment with the Scosche WITH A LOT OF MODIFICATION, but neither you nor I can say anything about it until we actually got in there. Turns out fitment sucked, sorry to hear it. You said it yourself, it can be MADE to look perfect. You did not pay me to MAKE it look perfect. The gap with the GXE is easier to fix than dremeling/bondoing/painting the Scosche kit. You need new vents anyway, that's why the top is not fitting right. You know that, right? It won't pop in because one of your clips is missing.

You want me to reimburse you $8 for a kit that wasnt going to fit. Sorry, not happening. Mainly because if I paypal you, I'm sure I will hear from paypal because you file a complaint after the fact. You do that, don't you?

The screw in the ashtray was not used because you have so much crap crammed behind there, which is what I told you.

I'm done with this thread.

Something constructive: you will find higher grit sandpapers at auto stores such as AutoZone or Strauss, rather than at Home Depot. Have fun with your precious $8 kit.
