hi everyone. well, i sold something on ebay, only worth around $40 but still, and the buyer payed for it and it was shipped by airmail. now the buyer was located in canada and it was sold from overseas, so there was no U.S postal or courier services involved (i'm not sure if that matters since paypal hq are in the U.S). now, he "claims" he didnt get it but i have the receipt. now, you cant track the package with just regualr airmail. so i think im screwed. i called paypal and they said they need proof the buyer received it. since it wasnt a big item, there was no way i could charge him the price of a courier or that he would even pay it, since courier shipping would be a higher value than the item itself. plus, when i sent it, there was no way you can ONLY get the tracking number if sent by airmail. when i talked to paypal, they said it will go in the buyers favor EVEN if he got the package and was a scammer, coz all he simply has to do is say he didnt get it and file with paypal that he received nothing. then if the seller cant prove the tracking of it, then its the sellers fault. now i can understand the logic behind that but...

1. whats to stop anyone from buying anything using paypal, even requesting the cheapest shipping method, get the item, claim he didnt, then get his money back????

and

2. what is a seller to do in a situation where the item isnt really worth putting courier priced shipping on it, like say an item $50.00 and less and therefore no tracking number, and then make sure they dont get ripped??

My friend just did that to a seller.

Seller claimed to be located in the US but products ship from hong kong or some shit..

He got the item and felt it was not what the auction stated..

So he filed with paypal said he didnt receive it and since the seller didnt go thru proper measures with paypal he won the fight by default in 10 days..

Sorry I have no idea what u can do :p I've never had a problem selling thank god..

What did u sell?

U can do 2 things

close your paypal account nad the bank associated with it so they can't collect...which I did once on a 900.00 item some guy claimed he didnt get, liar.

Chances are the guy did get the item and is FOS,but usually you can track international shipments if you go through the right avenue's

yea, but if the seller has proof that item was recieved then u are good, thats y u hold on to trackin info and get the signature thing so when the item gets there he has to sign for it and that evidence there. i dont kno if all carriers do it, but some do. i mean if u close ya paypal account, they will take that into suspicion(sp?) and they will deal wit that. i mean if u do close it they still have all ya info and someway some how they gonna collect.

It is not the buyers job to request tracking. It is your job to make sure the buyer recieves the item in as advertised condition. If you want to prove it got there and the seller doesnt pay for tracking you should. Same goes for insurance. I promise if the buyer gets an item damaged in shipping he is gonna file a claim with paypal if you dont have insurance. Basically ebay is all about covering your own ***.

well the problem with that is, i want to keep my account since i sell fairly often, and dont wanna go through the hassle of cancelling, then trying to make a NEW account (thats IF paypal would a second time)

plus it wasnt a big item, so its not worth closing it just for that. plus, paypal seems the BEST way to accept payments and do smooth transactions with people on here or ebay for the most part. so i eliminated cancelling my account

yes, i have proof. but its only the receipt from the post office. no tracking or signature because since it was an item only worth $50.00 or so, i surely couldnt charge a lot for shipping, like less then $10.00 AND i surely couldnt use a courier to send it as it would cost more than the package almost. the post office (which isnt in the U.S) said, i must use a courier to get a tracking number. that was the only way. i guess im screwed, but i just took the risk of sending it airmail. the post office said they cant track via airmail

i understand what youre saying. i agree. but i couldnt pay for tracking myself even, coz the auction stated it was shipping for around $10 and therefore would only cover airmail, not courier services which would be triple .

the thing that peeves me and others should be wary as well is, ANYONE could pay for something on ebay and even go as far as requesting it to be sent by ground mail or the cheapest way to avoid any tracking methods from the seller, and if the seller is none the wiser, than the buyer can simply get the item then claim he didnt and get his money back and all this can happen even if i have the orignal receipt which is worthless really

what did u sell?
nothing much. not related to car audio. its not the item or money im really worried about. its basically has to with anyone could just simply pay for something on ebay using paypal, request ground shipping which usually has no tracking method, then claim you didnt get it when in fact you did. there nothing the seller , like me, can do. so i guess dont sell without a tracking number. but what if the item is not worth putting expensive courier shipping on? see my point guys ? anyone could do this and scam one of us

on items via the postal service, isn't there a way you can offer to request a signature upon delivery? i kno i get those cards in the mail saying my item is at the post office and i need to pick it up and i have to sign for it. if you don't accept it, they return the item within 7 days to the shipping party.

No tracking, then your SOL.

That is why a lot of people only ship to confirmed addresses. Learn a lesson this time around and be thankful it was not a high priced item. Start charging for a tracking number from now on, or ship UPS.

UPS sucks but you get a tracking number included in the shipping fee's.

i always prefer dhl. speedy delivery. tracking number, USUALLY the cheapest and quickest. never had a problem with them once, except they didn't update my tracking page, so the guy called them and said it would be deliverd that day.

I agree, DHL is a secure shipping method. They don't deliberately damage packages and work with USPS to ship the packages //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

i ship plenty with the US post office, usually 2-3 day delivery confirmation or if its a expensive object i will do signature confirmation. on either of these you do get a tracking # to follow. any seller should pay the 1.00-2.00 extra to get tracking #'s just to cover their own a$$. couple bucks is better than being out 50+.
