i currently have a 10" infinity kappa perfect 10.1. i have a friend that will buy it for $80. i can get 2 10" infinity reference subs from crutchfield for $100. my amp will push two subs about 200-250 rms apiece. would i be better off with the 2 reference subs or the 1 kappa sub? im sure the 2 reference subs would be louder but would they sound as good as the kappa?

well i really like the infinities and for the price you cant really beat it... but i did ask a question and it wasnt what should i upgrade to. what do you think will sound better and be louder 2 10" reference subs or 1 10" kappa sub?

If you like infinity(as i do), i would spend that money towards one 12VQ and put that 500rms on that in a big ported box. I have a vq, and it sounds great. I like it much better than the 12 perfect i had. I also like it much better than the reference that i have. I have one that i might be selling since i bought two, pm me if you are interested.

To answer your question theoretically given the same amount of power and double the cone area ( 2 subs instead of 1) . The two should be louder. Theoretically anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you could buy one 12" and port it, would make more sense to me...

i have a DVC 4 ohm Infinity Reference 1240 for 50 shipped if you want it, can pick up another cheap and run 2 12's instead of 2 10's

well i would rather stick with 10"s b/c i dont want to make a new box. i know the 2 should be louder but i have never heard reference subs b4 and am wondering how they sound compared to a kappa. anyone know?

Not trying to be a d!ck or anything. But nobody is going to be able to tell you what will sound good to you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I didn't think they were as clean. Not bad, though. Two tens would sound nice. crutchfield even lets you try them out and return if you don't like them.
The part I made bold is the best bit out of the whole deal! If you take advantage of Crutchfield's Buy One Get One Free deal they have going currently you have a full month to decide if it was a worthy buy or not. Don't like 'em? Unimpressed with the cosmetics? Decide you don't want to take up as much room with two tens and stick with a single 10 like you had before? Send 'em back and get all your money returned. You just cannot beat their return policy...they even pay for shipping the stuff back to them! (how many online retailers will do that for you?)

As far as sound.....I think two Reference 10s would be louder than the Kappa you're running now but I do not think the clarity will quite be the same. There is a reason that the Reference subs cost less than the Kappas or the Kappa Perfects ~ they're not as good of a sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ya i just noticed that i didnt realize crutchfield did that. i think im going to go ahead and get a set of them. i will probably upgrade the system later but money is tight right now so these would be perfect for me. thanks for your help guys i appreciate it.

alright guys i have another quick question. should i get the DVC 4 subs or the SVC subs? heres the specs on the amp i am using:

Details:

» 2-channel car amplifier

» 200 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (250 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)

» 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)

» low-pass crossover (50-300 Hz, 12 dB/octave)

» variable bass boost (0-10 dB at 40 Hz)

» MOSFET power supply and output stages

» Tri-way capable (Tri-Way Crossover required)

» CEA-2006 compliant

» preamp- and speaker-level inputs

» preamp outputs

» gold-plated connectors

» fuse rating: 40A x 2

» 4-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier

» 15-3/4"W x 2-3/16"H x 10-7/8"D

how could i wire the subs to the amp for maximun power? i dont know much about bridging and the ohm's and stuff.

and here are the specs on the DVC subs...

Details:

» 10" subwoofer with two 4-ohm voice coils

» polypropylene cone with large-roll rubber surround

» innovative basket and motor structure design reduces mounting depth

» progressive spider for maximum cone control

» power range: 60-250 RMS watts (125 watts per voice coil)

» peak power: 1000 watts

» frequency range: 25-400 Hz

» sensitivity: 91 dB
