Ok so here is the problem. I have a 1998 mercury sable. And i find out today that my breaks in the back are gone and are starting to eat away at the rotors. So i was just wondering from you car fixer-uppers, how hard it would be for myself or a buddy to replace my brake rotors and put new calipers and breaks in. The only reason i ask is because im not wanting to pay someone 900 bucks to do it which would not be worth it at all. Suggestions???

go buy new pads and put them on not really a super difficult job but be careful. use google too, find how much torque you have to put on the bolts

You are going to put new pads, rotors and calipers in? Maybe I read it wrong? I wouldn't replace the calipers unless you have to.

As far as new pads and rotors go, it's a piece of cake, just unbolt, replace, bolt back on. Bleeding the brakes is also a good idea but if you can't even change pads/rotors you might want to pay someone else to bleed the brakes.

Shop said i need to replace it all. But who knows they are probably trying to get me to buy there shit. And the reason for the new calipers is because when i went to get an oil change and on the rear pads there was 8/32 left on the pads on the back tires, now its grooving into the rotors making a horrible horrible noise. So basically I'm going to need a new caliper for both wheels.

EDIT** Oil change was on 8/01/08

you don't need new calipers. since the pads are grooving into the rotors defiantly change out the rotors as well.you don't need to bleed them after only changing the pads and rotors. honestly its not a hard job if you have someone that's done it with you. i would also find a different shop if they wanted to charge you 900 bucks to install all that. i'm sure you can find someone place that will do it for 3-400 if you do not want to do it your self. but if you do just google it and read all the write up there are. and take your time your basically working on your life. you do not want your brakes going out when your doing 70 down the freeway or something. make sure you compress the piston in the caliper so you can get it out from around the rotor.also i hope for 900 they were going to atleast change them all around not just the rear. if not than they were raping you up the rear end.
