i recently bought a 95 5 speed accord and probably 1 out of every 25-30 time i shift into first (sometimes reverse) its hard to get into, ive checked online and seen a ton of people having the same problem but cant really get a straight forward answer. most of the time i can shift into second then back to first without a problem or just put it in neutral move it then it goes back but its bothering me enough to want to get it fixed. so question is, does anyone have any idea of what it can be? take it into a shop, research it some more? i just want to prevent it from getting any worse.. thanks

How many miles on the car? Original clutch? My girlfriends old 5-speed tacoma had a similar problem, would be hard to go into reverse sometimes and would have to just keep trying going from 1st to reverse and it would finally go to reverse. We never figured it out either sorry I can't be any more help.

What speed are you coming from?

The trannies had a lock on 1st and the reverse gear to keep you from shifting down into 1st from too high of a speed and from shifting into reverse with forward momentum. I remember the 1st gear lock on mine was broken which was great.

Could be synchro's too..

im at a dead stop when im shifting from 1st.. 130xxx on the car and newer clutch i believe..im hoping maybe a cable can be adjusted because it doesnt happen every time i try shifting into first...reverse hardly happens but it does, which isnt much of a problem just the first gear is bothering me..

It MAY be the cable, but then you'd have problems getting other gears to engauge.

My 97 Civic was a little hard to get into gear, so I drained the fluid and put new in and it's been fine ever since. I also have a brand new clutch, slave cylinder and throw out bearing and not it feels like a brand new ******. Eventually going to get a JDM ***** with LSD.

But like said before, it could also be your synchros. The previous owner probably jammed it in 1st gear alot while still moving and it messed the synchros up.

ill look into draining the ***** fluid, but if it was the synchros wouldnt it happen all the time? or no?

Each gear has their own synchro. Like I said before, since the ***** has a speed lock on first and reverse, the previous owner most likely liked to jam it in first while still rolling, and it fukked the first gear synchro up.

maybe its missing some teeth ?
this could be it too worn down teeth but i am still saying its the synchros! they kinda just take a shit some times . i couldnt tell you unless i was their or you have very disriptive pictures and could send the smeels and touch senses.
