yeah just get the head unit and subs. Read up more on proper techniques to install speakers in the meantime so when you do tackle it, you'll know exactly what to do to make any speaker set you throw in there sound great.Going to install myself, I have friends who can help out if I get myself in any trouble.
I don't doubt what Jeff says is true about corolla's acoustics, but your budget is the problem. I think you'd be too invested with just that one purchase. Sounds like you're on a tight budget and it may be a while before you'd be considering new speakers, deadener, amp, etc. I would get a cheaper deck, decent amp and comps right off the bat. Watch the videos and threads suggested to you, have your buddies help you with door treatments and you'll be golden. For $80, this amp would also do you well:So this and call it a day? Or get a HU and separate amp that add up to it's price?
I don't want you to miss the point in all this. The debate isn't about whether the deck is good. I'm sure it is good, the problem is your budget and how that deck works into it. $230 is a big chunk of your budget. If you can get past some quirks with the clarion, it's a great unit. Jeff said it's hard to see the display in the daylight. The $110 you save can be used toward an amp and have some left over toward the speakers. He is right about the install, you'll need to treat the doors to make this investment worthwhile. You can even get some deadener if you're expanding to $300, just google how to apply it.I could up my budget to $300. Will that make any big differences?
Neither. I stick to the suggestions I've already made. RF stuff is overpriced, lower end Sony decks are also crappy. I'm not sure what your criteria for narrowing down was, but option 2 is not here nor there. With my $250 budget I've decided to cut down my list to a HU and amp for now. Next I'll focus on sound deadening and a sub. Sound good?
So I've narrowed my choices.
