soo much left and right man. He wants overall better sound, not just loud music with his friends and other general assumptions. Overall better sound would be achieved with good Equalization and time alignment to get a good soundstage and clean/clear sound, Which we will help him achieve with tuning advice he can ask whenever. Of course some power will give him plenty of loudness. You guys downplay the stock speakers soo much when you guys have not even owned a corolla same generation as him before. This is more complicated than it needs to be.
All stock speakers have sounded really bad that I have personally come across. Plus didn't he say it was like an '04? Those speakers have seen better days lol. I'll let him use your advice, I know you know what you're talking about more than I do probably but I'm just bringing in some other ideas. It is a forum.
Well I have one and used it for about 2 months, beat it up pretty well, barely ever got warm. This is the reference series, which I own. Also heard ref mids made by maxxsonics, awesome performance for the price. Either way, this is a budget build and something's always gonna give. As far as 2-way, we hardly ever count the sub as it's implied it's running active. So 2-way active front stage is what he can do, though I think for his application, passive is the way to go.
We are talking about the same things, just different ways. If you're able to run tweet (Front) RCA and mid (Rear) RCA and sub RCA from head unit its 3-way active, not 2-way with implied sub. Let's just agree to disagree.
Hmm interesting decision. How much would would each be?
Well if you want to do it right you're going to want to buy OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) cable, it is the best cable period. If you wanted to run up to like 500-700rms (TOTAL) from your system you'd prob be ok with 8ga OFC. If you plan on running up to about 1200rms (TOTAL) you would want to run 4ga.
-So I guess the question is, how big are you trying to go on the subwoofer side?
-Are you planning on running active or passive components up front?
This website will give you more knowledge than you'd ever want to know. Dig around, the right side scrolls to see different categories.

To go a little further....
Being able to go active gives you the ability to buy raw drivers, any raw drivers and pair them with raw tweeters. I am not going to lie, it took me a looooooong time to go active because I was afraid of it. Now that I run active I didn't realize how easy it was, what better choice I have for speakers and also the control I have over them. That's just my experience, I wouldn't be mad atcha if you didn't feel comfortable especially since it's your first system but we could help.
