need help with amp, keeps shuting off like its over heating.

its a kenwood kac-5012d

its running at 2 ohm's.

after like 5 min of listening to music at moderate volume, amp just shuts off and if you turn the deck off and back on again it works fine! but it only does it if you turn it up! gain and everything is set right, my wireing kit is shitty and only like 6 gauge. it say's 4 but its not! any help would be great, thanks.

amp doesnt even get that warm.

Are you certain it is running @ 2 Ohms? What sub(s) is it powering?

amp is only like a month old, and its geting 13.9 volts but with light and a/c and volume up it gets like 13.3

K - then if the subs are wired right, to a final load of 2 Ohms like you've stated, then there's something wrong internally in the amp or more likely, it's something simple in your wiring.

When it shuts off, does any of the protection lights come on? Also, check and make sure that you are getting voltage to the remote.

First make sure your amp is stable at 2ohms. Lots for times lower grade amps like yours say 2ohms but only in stereo not mono. I don't recall any Kenwood amps going down to 2 ohms in mono but its been awhile since I have delt with that brand.

It's a mono amplifier. And yes, is rated to be 2ohm stable (according to Kenwood's website, it's actually 1ohm stable).

Sounds like it's kicking into protection for some reason. Are you sure the ground is adequate? Are you positive you wired it to 2ohm and not .5ohm? How did you set the gain? Any bass boost being used, either on the deck or on the amplifier?

i'm almost positive everything is right! yes bass bosst is used on both most of the time. today it was kinda could out and i cranked it all the way home from work and never shut off, it seems like it does not like heat but it still will shut off when cold sometimes. can someone tell me how it should be wired and how things should be set and then i'll tell you if it is right, its to hard to exsplain for me with out a pic or somthin?
