well see there is where I fucked up then, I put rtv sealent around the top one thinking there was just one. anyone know of a good way to get that **** off so I can take the dustcap off?
the same thing happened to my hdc3 15... it started to make a rattling noise and then i took it out and the coil unwound which caused that odd scraping noise when u push down the woofer.... also i had another hdc3 just cut out because the spiders came unglued form the spider landing
Thor is more than likely correct. The spider can come loose over time, its the thing that the leads are attached to. gotta pull the sub out and push the cone outward, check around the outer ring and inner ring to make sure it hasnt ripped or the glue hasnt given up. If the glue has givin up, it should be able to reglue with much issue. If its ripped, then you will more than likely want to recone it.
I think thor got it right with the dustcap bein the problem I just have no clue as to how to get the rtv sealent I put on there off bc I thought that was the problem from the very beginning. little did I know it had 2 dustcaps...
Personally, instead of trying to get the glue off, I would cut a circle out of the dustcap about a quarter inch from the glue joint. Being very careful not to cut the cone. Then, find the problem fix it and get another dustcap and glue it over the top. Not exactly profession but it would work. But you have to decide if you want to risk it.
well hell whats the worst that could happen? I'd need a recone then. If it does happen to work with say a 10 inch or so dust cap to seal it all up then it'd be a success right?
