I have a hdc315 ran off a kx1200.1. it has been doin fine for about a year and all of a sudden it developed a tapping noise. I thought it could have been the dustcap so I put rtv sealent around it, still didn't help. the box is completely sealed and doesn't drop out so the only other thing I can think of is tinsel slap. anyone else have a problem like this?

High excursion subwoofers require a lead wire system that doesn’t flop all over the place or break. We use the direct connect system (no terminals) because it works the best. With our direct connect system you get no annoying lead slap noise, no ripped or holes burnt in the spiders and no flimsy lead in wires coming out of the cone to break or short out and burn into. You get no cheap terminals to break off or come loose. You do get 12 gauge lead wire easily connected by wire nuts or crimp connectors. You can also twist and tape the connections if you’re in a hurry.
this is what aq says

i have the same problem with my dd9510g, on the same amp.... i am under the impression that the voice coil isn't glued to the dustcap anymore, thus cause a tapping/knocking noise but only at higher volume. i havn't had my sub taken apart to check this yet, but i think that may be whats happening

lol Coil does not glue to the cap. My money is on one of 2 things....Pull sub and look at the spider ring. Its plastic and glues to the basket. You may have to put a lil pressure on it to see the seperation or broken point. If its not that than its probably the triple joint which is where the spider, coil and cone are glued to ea other.

Your bottom spider can also let go and will cause this. You wont be able to tell the until you recone it.

With sub out push on the cone and listen or feel for a crunchin type noise. Then push up on the cone from the under side and see if it also has that noise. This is something that happened to me quite a bit when I ran the hdc's
