need car waxing advice

i use meguires nxt car wax. a person i met at a car show told me that i should apply a good carnuba wax over the one i already use. ( nxt ). he said that mequires is good to bring out the shine, but not really good to protect. what would u guys suggest. i live about 200 yard from the ocean so i really need a good wax.
