on todays amps that have switching capabilty---is it more beneficial to run the amp at say 4 ohms than at 1 ohms even though it puts out the same power at either? basically i want to know if the 1 ohm puts more stress on it as it does with a non-switching amp?

does anyone have any experience runnin this amp? i've never had any P.G. products so i don't know alot about them.

They have nice features such as, the cross over frequency potentiometer has clicks in it that are nice and accurate. Other is obvious, consistant power 1-4 ohm, but I believe there is a little more output at lower impedances. I've heard that these amps are known to die for no reason. The amount of people that has happened to I don't know. Don' t let that deter you. IMO I'd try for the price match with cardomain and have insurance from sounddomain.

I can not recommend phoenix gold amps to anyone. I have a ti800.1 that I bought and it thermal turns off at 96 degrees because it's defective. I've heard many bad things about PG amps. However, they have a 1 year warrenty if you buy from a auth dealer like cardomain. They're pretty nice about sending their stuff back. I've just heard about the amps breaking way too much. IMO a better amp would be US amps or hifonics. The way the 1-4 ohm switching works is the amp has some electronics in it to limit the output below 4 ohms. They do this so they can put a smaller power supply and other parts in the amp that they'd need for lower loads. Running amps at higher ohms make them run cooler. Running amps on lower ohms causes much more stress/heat on the circuits. IMO, US Amps are some of the best amps out there. They're also not cheap. hifonic amps are very good for the price. JBL amps are really good too.
