need amp help..can anyone please help?

So the other day i was going to sell my Planet Audio Zetar 2000w amp, that i got from my brother (it worked when he took it out of his jeep)... to a friend. We hooked it up and it powered on and started hitting. once the settings were tweaked it went into protect mode...now im thinking the amp hasnt been used in a good 8-9 months..could it just have been because its been sitting, and i should let it warm up for a few songs before doing any tweaking? would you think that'll get it out of protect mode? we only tried it for a few seconds when it was first hooked up before any settings were tweaked and it went into protect. so if you believe that maybe it just needs warmed up before adjustment let me know...thank you
