I got this amp here:

MTX Car Audio - Archive - RT4340

I really would like to do something a lil different this time around. Could just buy a normal passive set like rsd's or whatever but this time I want to buy mids, tweets, and xovers seperate. Not sure on how to go about matching the pieces up with frequencies and all. Need a set of 6.5" with some compatible xovers, and some nice azz tweets to set if off. I could bridge my amp or run a set of each in my four doors. Been looking on Madisound and Partsexpress but not sure on what to look for. I do want some nice loud midrange and decent midbass and once again, some clean smooth tweets. Can someone lead me in the right direction please.

Straight Trash. if you gonna run a old mtx get you a blue thunder pro or one of the thunder series like a thunder 302 or something. the road thunders are terrible. i dont care how nice your speakers are they will sound bad on that amp.

Hey there OP. I hope you're having a nice day. I couldn't help but notice that you're interested in buying yourself some new component speakers. I also noticed that your current amplifier has been called less than stellar by another poster. Maybe you should put some thought into purchasing my JL Audio 300/2. It's in pretty decent cosmetic shape, it's in 100% working order and I'd be willing to let it go for a fair price.

Just sayin'....

you need to be careful when selecting speakers and building your own set. read up on Thiele/Small parameters and how to apply them. also pay close attention to speaker impedance, off-axis response, power handling, mounting depth, cone treatments/materials, etc. some speakers are designed for small sealed enclosures (not car doors).

Madisound has some car audio components, that are matched speaker sets. kind of middle ground.

I like this amp, does its rated power and more. Speakers I previously ran off it sounded pretty nice. What makes it "trash" as u say?

As much as I hate to send you to DIYMA. I would look through the review section on there a lot of old good stuff about drivers from Partsexpress and madisound and others.

I would not waste my time posting there but it is a good place to dig up old reviews and research.

You would probably be better off going active via amplifier crossover, or external electronic crossover if you REALLY wanted to piece together your own components. I say this because it'll just be easier in the long run. Granted, you'll have to use all 4 channels on a 4-channel amp, but I'd say it's worth it if you want to try your hand at something new.

gonna have to do some research but this does sound interesting. Do I need any special h/u or xover to dothis or can my existing gear work?

Your existing amplifier doesn't have a crossover flexible enough to do what you want. However, an external electronic crossover can be had for relatively cheap, or you can buy a headunit that is active capable. But for the sake of price, I would go with an external crossover unless you intended on buying a new headunit/new amplifier anyways.

It does take a lot of reading to really understand what you would be diving into. Before you even think about buying anything, you should spend a few days reading what exactly it means to go "active," and what the pros and cons are.
