Hi,
So i just bought a new ram 1500 sport crew cab completely loaded. Then i go to pick it up and it didn't have the $300 alpine speaker upgrade (two 2.5" in the headliner, one 3.5" in the center channel dash, and a factory sub). I couldn't believe it and actually walked out of the dealer. Then we worked a deal out the next day and I got some money off so I'm good with upgrades.
I used to build crazy systems when i was younger but now I want something that sounds great but don't need the crazy bass. The truck has a standard 6 speaker system with 6x9's in the front and rear doors and (2) 3.5" in the dash.
I bought the following and they are on their way:
Dash replacements: JL Audio C2-350X 3.5" 80W Evolution C2 Series
Both front and rear doors: Rockford Fosgate T165-S 6.5" 320W
I love the OEM head unit (8.4", very nice for me).
So finally, here's where I need help.
1.) With this setup, I believe that I need to run new wiring to the door component systems correct because the factory wire gauge won't support the ampage that the RF setup needs?
2.) I know I need some sort of speaker level connector (hi lo) to get a signal to these speakers. Should i get one in conjunction with a crossover as well?
3.) I know I need an amp for this setup. I am planning on putting a 10" sub under the back seat, i don't want to take up a ton of space. Mopar makes a factory Kicker sub for $550 with a factory amp which would be enough kick for me but it seems expensive for what it is. I was thinking I could buy a 5 channel amp, run 4 channels to the RF's components in the front/rear doors, then the last channel to a 10" sub in a custom enclosure i build in the back.
4.) The RF T series has their own crossovers with each set. Can i run everything to a big crossover then run mids/treb out of that to the T series component systems? Do i need a speaker level input for each set of speakers or if i get one and push it through a crossover would it deliver the signal out to the 5 channels?
What amp is small and you would recommend for this?
I don't have the T series yet so not sure how big teh crossovers are in the component systems so whether or not i can mount them in each door.
Sorry for the big book here, I appreciate your input!
Mike
