Need Advice: New Audio System

DC subs do awesome in small boxes...
DC level 3 ten inch woofer calls for a 1 cubic foot ported box. This would be great for a single cab truck. I have the same truck and I have a 2.5 cubic foot box behind the seats
I agree, DC subs sound great in small enclosures.

Their are a couple of TC subs in the classifieds right now that sound amazing in small enclosures as well.

@DaytonLax14 What are the dimensions of the box you posted pics of? And whats the volume of the chamber?

So I would like to do 1 - 12". I would settle for 1 - 10". I need shallow mount with small space reqs. The Sundown sd2 and the Kicker RT series fit that bill. I saw a mention of DC, but I haven't check it out yet. I have to buy stuff today for Christmas.

I am pretty sure I am building the box now. I'd like to fit a 12 but its gonna be tight. Any suggestions are welcomed. I need a place for amps too, but I guess under the seats will be my backup plan.

The amp is my trouble area. Its a lot of unfamiliar brands for me so I am trying to weigh it all out. Here is a breakdown of things I have looked at.

Soundqubed: 1200.1 & 90.4 = $500
Kicker: 800.5 = $500
Kicker: 800.1 & 400.4 = $680
NVX: 1200.1 & 800.4 = $425
FSD: 1200 & 125.4 = $400
FSD: 1200 & 85.4 = $330
PPI: P1000D & 900.4 = $340
PPI: P1000D & 600.2 = 285

Those seem to be the main ones I have looked at, based on your suggestions. Here are a few thoughts I have.

Kicker: I saw the Kicker amps in person and they seemed solid. I like them, but they're cost is higher in any way you stack it. The watt output is lower, which I don't mind as long as it sounds good. I have heard better quality amps with lower watts sound much better than higher output amps. I don't know if this is the case with Kicker.

NVX: I have only seen on the internet and only because people here suggested. It encourages me that multiple companies use this amp platform. I like the price and at least the company appears to have a legit presence on the internet. I hope quality is there.

FSD: FSD looks appealing and gets high reviews by some here. I see it very similar to NVX, but a major concern I have is that I cannot find any kind of real presence for FSD on the internet. Their site is poor and broken. The only place I see them for sale is Amazon. The product looks good, but it scares me on quality and warranty if the company is not solid. I worry about that and quality.

PPI: Now I was an RF guy all the way back in the day and I always battled with PPI guys. Now I realize things are different. I love the PPI prices, but I haven't the slightest if the quality is there. I worry about my money being wasted on stuff that's no good. I just don't know if PPI is or not.

SoundQubed: Again this is a new brand to me, but they do seem to have more of their act together. The price is higher than some others but again I don't know if its worth the premium or not. I am not impressed with their posted specs for their woofers, but that's not a deal breaker.

So with all of this said, I need to order at least a chunk of this stuff today so I can have some stuff around the tree. I really appreciate all the feedback thus far. I am planning to start the box building process maybe this weekend or next week, after Christmas. I need some help on figuring out the design and porting, but I think I have pretty much waived the white flag to either build or buy a custom size box.

I just ordered the SQ 1200.1 and the 90.4.

I want to order the Sundown SD 10" or 12". Which model should I order, the Dual 4 ohm coil or the Dual 2 ohm?

I don't know if I can get the 12" space needed for ported, so I guess I may have to go with the 10".

Can the Sd series handle the 1200.1 amp at 1ohm? Which woofer voice coil setup do I need?

Trying to order for Christmas right now....

One of them will not be able to handle all 1200watts. If your truck could even make 1200 watts. So its just turning the gain down and really paying attention to your sub. Which is preferable anyways, you get cleaner power when you don't strain an amp.

If you can squeeze 2.5 cubic feet out of the back space total, then go for the 12. Sundown recommends 1.75 cubic plus port and driver discplacment. You would probably be fine with 1.5 cubic feet with that driver.

If I remember right, the measurements you gave before gave you around 2 to 2.1 cubic feet gross. All you need to do is squeeze out about another half a cubic foot.

I just spoke to soundsolutions. They said for a single woofer, I should do dual 4ohm coils because 1200@1ohm is too much for 1 woofer. As for space, my base specs bring me to about 1.55 cu.ft. I might be able to squeeze it up to about 1.75'ish, but I would really be stretching it and moving the seat forward for more than that.

I think I am going to order a SD-3 10" dual 4ohm coil. If I can find someone to help me with the box and get more space, then I will send the 10" back for a 12". I realize with 1 - dual 4ohm coils I wont get to 1ohm, but if the woofer cant handle the power at 1ohm then I guess I cant use it.

Can you swing an HDS3 10? They will take that power all day.

I can't do HDS because of mounting depth and they want more volume that the SD series. If a better woofer comes to mind that the price range that will do a better job, by all means let me know.

I would still rather have a 12, but as of now it seems like a 10 will fit.

For the box, I am attaching a guess. This box is the same width and height, but I reduced the depth (from seat to back) to 6in. This can make the box square instead of a wedge. Now, the specs say 1c. ft. for the SD-2 10". I am getting the SD-3 10", but no specs are posted. The displacement for the woofer is like .11 I believe. Now I guess I need help with the port.

Anyone who knows, please let me know if you think I should do any of this differently and how to do the port. I am trying to make it simple and tuned very well. I would prefer to buy, but I am working on this as if I need to build it. Amp rack/mount would be a bonus.

Thanks!

[/QUOTE]

Outside Dimensions:
Width: 40
Height: 19
Top Depth: 6
Bottom Depth: 10

2.5 cubes before displacement

Use torres box calculator to figure out port length. You want to have roughly 13-15 sq inches port are per cubic foot of box

It sounds like you went with the SD-3 10" though, right?
Yes, I bought the SD-3 10". Would prefer 12", but I know this will fit well. Power handling isnt what I'd like so up until I put it in the box, I will probably look around more.
