what is the length from your alt to your batt. and then from the ground side of the batt to the chassis ground and then the motor to the chassis ground color is up to you as long as you know where they go

that should be fine i think i use about 8 to 9' for it all but that is for my 02 grand prix

Depends on what kind vehicle you've got...
My alternator on my jeep is mounted right next to the battery.
Other cars are mounted on the bottom of the engine.

Well my Alt and Battery are IMPOSSIBLE to get at. I have to lift it or put it on ramps to even see the battery. Going to be a FUN christmas break.

02 Dodge Intrepid.
Sexy *** Car.
UnSexy *** Engine Bay. It's so cramed. I think the alternator is right in front of the engine. The battery is next to the wheel well of the passenger side wheel.
