simply put, that's what the gains are for. Adjusting for different input voltages.

gotcha. i never knew exactly what they were for, i just assumed it was as the name would imply: to adjust the "loudness" of the amp. guess im a little uneducated when it comes to that lol. i know most everything else about the basic car audio stuff. thanks for the help.

actually, the example you gave of .2-8V is exactly what the range is. so my 2V output is in that range. will i get more power out of the amp if i do get a line driver and up my output to 8V?
