I need lots of help here with products to look into, instead of me just looking at a wide variety of things. Here is what I have and want to do. I have an lcd TV that is 1080p capable 5 hdmi inputs, a motorolla hdpvr that does 1080i or 720p, dvd recorder/player that can do hdmi too (upscaling). May also add either a wii and or a ps3 later as well. Most of the tv use will be with the hd cable box. This will be in a living room for general audio purposes. Not looking to build a theater room here. I want to be able to do things as easily as possible without running extra splitters or cables. Most the time watch tv with the tv speakers and receiver off. I was thinking of only using a sub when I want the extra bass for either music or movies. So I don't know if that means I should go with 3 way mains or 2 way will be sufficient. I don't need it to sound the best just decent with the ability to get decently loud if I ever need to. I was thinking about doing it in stages like building the mains first then the rest later. I was thinking maybe the onkyo 606 or something in the $400 range. Input on diy speakers to do what I want, I don't have a budget for the speakers yet. Probably use parts express parts or similar, zaphaudio, PE kits or something is what I want to build. Thanks

Jason

I haven't found and DIY Kits that are speaker specific, if a pair for the mains, for the CC, and surrounds (in a di-pole configuration...a bookshelf may be fine in some instances).

Mark Zaph has this ZRT that I would love to build however, it is a 4 ohm nominal system. My receiver only goes down to 6 ohms.

Finding 5 speakers to build is rather easy and I'd reccomend the kits from PE.

Thinking about the onkyo 706 as it is stable at 4 ohms, and I can run a sub off it for now. Going to go check out a local dealer to see how much they want for it. I have a feeling I'm not going to like their price. The Dr. K's MTM project looks interesting, or the tritrix. For the time being I want to use the 12" infinity sub I have in the closet.

Just got my PE order today to build a pair of Nat P's and an RS150 center. Both MTM setups using Dayton components. EP2500 amp will drive 2 12" w6v2's sealed. Ordered an onkyo 706 yesterday and should be here within a week or so. Now I need to start building the cabinets and hopefully get these all done before we move into our house. Gonna start the xo's probably tomorrow.

eh already decided on what I am doing now :p

Built the crossovers for the mains already. Hopefully get to HD tomorrow and get some mdf and start building.

It was pretty easy since I just followed diagrams and pics. They aren't 100% finished but pretty close. Just got back from HD with some mdf. Hopefully the rain/snow holds off for a bit so I can get started on the cabinets. Oh and they are dayton drivers.
