Nas Killed Hip Hop!!!!

My comment was based off what you said. That if an album is good people will buy it. And I'm saying that's not true at all. 50 cent's album Curtis sold and it was the worst thing he's ever made. Album sales have little to do with how good the actual album is. And I enjoyed Nas' Untitled album a lot. Anytime a rapper comes out with a message and does it well I think it's a good thing.

X2

"If an album is good, people will buy it" is different than "If people buy it, the album is good"...haven't you taken a basic intro to logic/philosophy class yet?
What are you talking about. You said If an album is good people will buy it.

Soulja Boy's album was not good. Why did people buy it?

50 cent's album was not good. Why did people buy it?

The whole if something is good people will buy it idea is not true.

Read carefully, you're missing the point.

Record sales do not = good

Good albums should = record sales

^^^those are two entirely different statements. It's like saying, all cats are mammals, but not all mammals are cats.

Well in the young kids, like my step kids that are 11 and 12, everything is about what is "in" at the moment. So they love the Jonas brothers, Hannah Montana and Soulja boy.........they still do the stupid dance. I keep to myself and laugh it off, but inside it drives me nutz!

I can now understand why my mom hated my music from back in the day and how I drove her crazy.

I now listen to mostly what my parents listen too, which is stuff like Led Zep, Rush, AC/DC, Lynard Skynard, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins and shit like that.

32 years old if you are wondering, lol!

In theory Good albums should=record sales but that is not reality at all. Your previous statements made it seem as though you actually believe that if an album is good it will sell. So just so I can understand where you're coming from would you clarify it? Do you believe that if an album is good it will have high record sales?

If the hype is good, the sales will come

its that easy, it happens to anything/anyone. sports events, albums, etc etc... hype it up enough and people will have to tend to that itch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

A good album put out by someone who is already well established in mainstream media should easily go platinum. This isn't Jedi Mind Tricks or Jean Grae we're talking about here, it's Nas. He's been in the public spotlight since the early/mid 90's and had put out a handful of records. He's not a newcomer or an underground artist that hardly anyone knows about.

With that being said, there are reasons why no one bought it. Sure, the internet pirating is one of them, as is the struggling economy probably. But if the album was truly good, it would have done well, just as nearly every other one of his albums has.

hip hop has been dead since 2000.

all new music is not good.

rock, classical, opera, alternative, industrial, metal, pop, all of it.

newest cd i bought was avenged sevenfold beggining of this year and it was great. last good thing i can say for music, and i know and listen to ALOT of music.

ill always be a hip hop head, but jedi mind tricks, army of the pharoahes, esoteric, vinnie paz, non phixion, ill bill, RA the rugged man, cage, yakballz, all these stupid ****ers ruined it a long time ago. try scribble jam 2000 if you want some good hip hop.

youtube freestyle battle brother ali vs eyedea.

Nas is just one of few remaining rap artists that I don't even need to hear a track from and I'll still buy it.

Most of you Bastids here killed hip hop with your bass tracks and chopped and screwed beats. Actual talent went to the wayside. An artist with good lyrics may sell 100k, while somome jagoff with a new dance or a beat that sounds EXACTLY like someone else's beat gets mad airplay.

I'll say it again, anybody with the name Young or lil in their stage name is not worth listening to. That is not creativity, that it shit to get paid. I blame Master P. Since his arrival on the rap scene, shit went down hill. After him, every turd burgular with enough money to get in the studio tried to get on.

There is lots of good music out there right now (although whether it fits your taste is a different story). There are some good hip hop artists out there, too, but if we're talking about "who killed hip hop?", then we are talking about people like Soulja Boy and not even remotely considering Nas.

"You've officially been chopped and screwed."
