Nas Killed Hip Hop!!!!

Didn't Jay just spend millions on a marketing campaign for Nas's last cd in 08. Heard the CD was big flop and Jay's label has yet to reclaim their money or the advance he gave to NAS.
Looks like I'm not the only one who no longer cares about any of them. / thread
What's your definition of flopping? Because the album was really good, went number one and reached gold status.

A Nas album not going platinum is a flop.
That's retarded. Do you realize how difficult it is to go platinum now? With people being able to download music illegally now all sales have went down. People who consider an album a flop because of record sales contribute the decline of rap music.

shit gold status is 500k records, which isn't shit these days. The Jonus brothers probably did that their first weekend.

500k X $10 = $5MM also read that the profit margin for the record label on every cd sold is about 6% (tops), which put about 300k back in Jay's pocket.

Only thing left for them to make money off of is the touring but I would bet no significant crowds show up for NAS anyway.

Fawk the Jonas Brothers, that is all I have to say!

Have two girls of 11 and 12....................I hate Miley Cyras or Hannah Montanna, the Jonas Brothers and all them other Disney fawkers!

Did anyone else have to listen to that shit on New Years night when they dropped the ball when the Jonas Brothers were playing? Shit was terrible! If you mainstream stuff, it should be good, and the Jonas brothers are not good................they are horrible! H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!

If it's truly good, people will buy it. I'm not saying that if something doesn't go platinum then it sucks. Great rappers that hardly anyone knows about can't go platinum with ease. But Nas, a guy who has been around for a long time, whose album releases are always known of, will go platinum if the album is good.

Hold your horses there Tiger, you're getting a little too riled up.

Not showing up to a Nas concert? what are you retarded? Nas has a following that is huge. I mean dudes album went gold without a major single. that's crazy, soulja boy is upset cause everyone is pointing their finger at him because the art of lyrics are dying. His album is performing horrible, 150K at the most with a hit single. alot of you cats on here aren't hip hop heads anyway, he's top 3 DOA.

Ummm. Nas shows are very popular and known for being one of the best rap acts. Have you ever seen him? If you think selling 500k is nothing these days especially in rap then you have little knowledge of what's going on in music today and there's no point in talking to you. And when you're actually trying to sell an album with a message it's especially difficult because all people want to do now a days is dance and listen to simple music. Which is a huge part of why Lil Wayne went platinum in one week. Because Lolli Pop was such a hit and then people went crazy over A Milli.

That's because people who listen to him are retarded. There are pleanty of people who love Nas, as evidence of you saying how popular and awesome his shows are. So, you'd figure, if Nas put out a truly solid album, then people(the many that like him) would buy it. I haven't heard a good Nas song in I don't know how long. His style has gotten more and more "preacher" like with horrible beats...nothing seems to flow like it used to. Or maybe I'm just stuck on how he used to be, and wish he was still the same?

My comment was based off what you said. That if an album is good people will buy it. And I'm saying that's not true at all. 50 cent's album Curtis sold and it was the worst thing he's ever made. Album sales have little to do with how good the actual album is. And I enjoyed Nas' Untitled album a lot. Anytime a rapper comes out with a message and does it well I think it's a good thing.

"If an album is good, people will buy it" is different than "If people buy it, the album is good"...haven't you taken a basic intro to logic/philosophy class yet?
