Name me some decent alarms

Viper 5901.
This is the model I have (I think) and it's great. Definitely get a 2-way system (means the remote is also a receiver and will alert you if the alarm is going off). This model also includes remote start which is always nice (unless you have a manual like me)

I've ran a basic Code alarm back when I had my caprice and it suited me well. Had a Autopage 2way pager/remote start system in my marquis and it was very nice. Imho just buy name brand at a shop and have them install it. You'll thank yourself later if you ever have any problems. Alarms and tint are about the only things i'll pay a prof to do.

Stick with DEI, they're number 1 for a reason. Viper 5901 is a good choice, they're fairly bulletproof... but if you want 100% bulletproof, the 5901's predecessors, the 791xv or the 5900sst were even better with more durable remote (you often can find them cheaper).

And you can install a 5901 in any manual, its just a pita to operate the way they want you to (or the way its designed to) - Many manual cars have a neutral safety wire and if you can find this, then any of these said alarms will operate JUST like an automatic, or only RS while in neutral. VWs, Nissans, and Subaru's I've found NS wire's in so far.... there may be more

IDK about the alarm itself, but the remote costs about $60 online. I need a new remote that's why. I'm not sure if it's better to buy a new remote or just buy a new alarm since new alarms are relatively cheap nowadays.

what alarm do you have currently?

I was referring to the whole unit being cheaper, what I mean is the 791/5900's can be had for less than the 5901 LC3s (current model)

if nothing else is wrong with it, I'd keep the 791... you're not missing much. Go from that to a 5901 you'll gain some range, but i can guarantee you'll hate the slow response of any button press to action (its delayed big time, the 791 is instant. This was the biggest pet peeve of mine)..
