i received my Hu back from pioneer, all working nice and properly, then time for D-day,

it worked, great, amp etc, all nice and dandy.

then i turned the car off (i have a seperate switch for the amp,

i hear distortion through the tweets, wtf is this?!?!

so i turn the car back on, only plays distortion, FUCK!

IDFK whats going on...

the amp doesnt play any distortion when turned on and RCAS are out,

but does play distortion through the speakers when car and HU are off but RCAS are in and amp is on.

additionally, could the amp be bad?

should i open for inspection and what should i be looking for?

.....

what tests to run?

corrosion can form on the battery posts over time. Get a terminal cleaner (or a metal brush) and clean them just to be sure. The only other thing I can think of is your amp is unstable at the lower battery voltage.

well my voltage never dipped low enough for that to occur. i idle at 14.1

and dropped to 12.8 lowest really..

im going to buy a HU harness tommorow and if it still f's up with the other HU, then more tests will be run.

I would start eliminating the problems. I'm assuming you are running a component set. Bypass the crossover and hook the tweeter up directly to the amp. If its still doing it, then try another set of tweeters and hook it up to the amp. Same problem, then try running a different set of tweeters, you can even use bookshelf tweeters. Check your entire run of speaker wire to your tweeter.

Sounds like you have a speaker wire, probably your tweeter wire, touching your positive speaker wire or your metal chassis causing your distortion.

Try a different set of RCA's.

Just start an elimination process.

^^ Easy way to burn up tweeters. Be sure to turn your gain ALL the way down before you start and Slowly turn up the volume. Tweets take about 1/10 - 1/4 the power that main speakers do, let alone subs. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I suspect a bad connection to your amp inputs or bad signal coming from the HU (defective outputs). Try using a Y-cable with RCA's on one end and a 1/8" headphone jack on the other. Use an Mp3 player/ipod and see if your amp plays OK using this.

Well the only thing i could use is my old phone. I wonder where i can find a y adapter.

Ill try that. its not the tweeters. I ran a dmm on each and both are doing it... My wires on them are fine.

As for testing. I need to find a harness for it. Ill run to walmart tommorow. I have 3 sets of rcas so ill do that.

should i move a ground? I have an amp grounded to the battery ground post, should i move it.?

Im leaning towards hu, because it played fine at the begin and got worse. The amp board is clean, rcas, grounds, hu are culprits. Ah.

Well obviously I'm not saying to not turn the volume knob down. I figured that was already implied with common sense

Radioshack

Thanks sir.

Now if the amp plays bad within three sets of rcas, its the amp.

If i hook up,a tweeter just off hu power, and its bad. its the hu.

is it bad to run a amp ground to the battery terminal?
