My system doesn't hit high base notes anymore?

Before I had a small box ported w/ one 12" sub. It hit every base note fine.

Now I got a custom built none ported box w/ two 12" subs. And now it only hits low base notes.

Here is a picture of both. My question is would it be the box causing this issue? or the amp? or both?

Your guys help is much appreciated. Sorry if this may be something already talked about I am new here and would just like to find out some information so I know weather or not to ***** at the place that built this box for me. Thanks guys.

Old box.

If your ported box had a fairly high tuning frequency then going from that to a sealed box will sound drastically different. You no longer have that +3dB from the port and bass peaks at the resonant frequency.

Sealed box are more SQ-oriented so if you want loud then you want a ported/bandpass/transmission-line box instead.

Crossover on the amp? or my headunit? I have the cross overs to 180hz on all speakers expect subs which is at 80hz. And those are the settings on my headunit. Not the amp.

Thank you for the replies!.

Thank you Wing!. I guess I'll have to get this one ported and possibly take a look at how the amp is set.

But it sounds like the amp is fine.. You might be right on here with it needing to be ported.

In your opinion would it be a good idea to get this box ported? or leave as is and get use to it?

That depends on if you want to mess with it, it looks pretty clean so to port it you'll have to make a new box and do it all over again.

Most Cerwin Vega subs like ported box than sealed. Almost all of their home and pro audio speakers are ported also.

I mean I'm use to hearing higher base notes that's what's bothering me. I don't really want to have it rebuilt again even though it won't be expensive at all.

But I know if I go ported. My entire trunk space will be gone... This is my daily driver to keep that in mind. Honestly What would you do?. You seem to know what your talking about here. I'm no expert. But right now all I hear is lows.

I know what the problem is.. look at this pic i bet if you could see the whole trunk that box would basically devide the trunk in half.. from what I can see it looks like there is no air flow really availible for bass to travel into the car... I bet anything if was able to push that box back a little bit he would get a higher bass note in the car..

??

This is correct. There is hardly any air in there. I mean It hits lows just fine and it bumps HARD. But high base notes.. just aren't happening anymore.

I'd love to check the amp crossover but the **** amp is behind the box... terrible design. I need to relocate the amp and cap so there visible.
