My system/advertising tool overview-- your comments?

Well I'm working for a local shop and we definatly don't have a problem doing sick installs, but we have a problem spreading the word about what we sell. Just an overview about us-

Owner worked for the other shop in town for 10 years. Other shop does Alpine, Rockford, and JL. The owner has done custom interior and installs for 10+ years, competed with many vehicles he's done, gone all around US and to Europe for installers challenges, etc.

Here's the problem- the other shop in town is known for sick installs because the owner of the shop I'm at basically ran the other shop for the last 10 years. The word has gotten out that the guy opened up his own shop and we've had people pouring in to get installs done. Now the hardest part, is trying to convince people that Rockford and JL is not the end all for car audio.

So we were at Usaci and we were talking to some Arc guys when the idea came to me and the owners mind to use my car as an advertising tool. I'm a senior in high school, and all high school kids are wanting a system. Most people think that the brands we carry like Clarion, Eclipse, Arc Audio, Memphis, Polk, etc are nothing because they're not Rockford or JL.

So the idea is to load up my car. I have a Camaro Z28 and need something influential that will get high schoolers running in to buy stuff. My car is one of the faster cars in the city and definatly the fastest in the school parking lot-- everybody wants a ride, which is the best time to show off a system.

Here's the list-

Eclipse CD5000

Arc Audio Arc 15D2

Arc Audio KAR 265

Arc Audio KAR 6022

Arc Audio KAR 1000v1

Arc Audio KAR 200.2

My idea is that if we get this thing super tuned to where its sounding good, I can use the line "dude this is our cheap stuff." The KAR series are obviously the low end Arc series and it's a bargain. Might throw in a Arc EQ to get the most out of it.

I can get this stuff cheap since I'm an employee and it will be sort of advertising. Also plan on doing our logo on the hatch window just so there is no confusion of what's going on.

Tie all of this together with a sick box and we should be making bank if my idea is legit. Like I said we have done a ton of installs but just getting people to take a listen to brands like Arc that they've never heard before, let alone buy the stuff, is hard.

Is this is a good idea or no? I know before when I used to have some RE stuff thrown in my Jeep everyone would want a peep at it. Oh ya, before someone says I'm "advertising a theft", we also do alarms... 2-way paging FTWzz.

Is this a legit idea or what? I'd really like to know what you think.

It's not like we're trying to super modify a car to make some Sonys sound good, Arc and Eclipse is actually good stuff to those of you who have never heard them/of them.

I think it's a great plan. When people hear my car and the bass coming out of the front doors (no sub yet) and I tell them I have Tang Bands, they get this look on their face that just says "WTF" but I know that now they're gonna love TB.

Try telling someone that my 4 RE8s were louder than 4 Rockford subs.....

Sure they were only P1 10''s, but still.. RE brand?.. 8" sub?.. WTF is that? And it's louder than ROCKFORD TENZZZ?

The stuff just needs to get out there. We barely do any medium installs. We either go huge (13 screens, 4 Eclipse 8200s, Memphis Belles in a 300C) or just do a CD player and pair of speakers. It's hard to get someone to imagine what their car could be like after they get the idea of "this car is huge, mine won't be near as cool."

Ohh, one hell of a good sounding woofer right there.

If this thing goes through .... pictures better be up here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Also gonna need a pic of this sick Z28 you're talking about. My friend's got a 99 Z28 SS clone he's putting money into.

This may sound wrong to all the car audio gurus but when it comes down to it, its pure business. If people come in wanting Rockford and JL, I commend you for trying to persuade them to cheaper alternatives that can get the job done equally well, but as a businessman, your retarded. If they come in wanting Rockford and JL, dont shove it down their throat that they're inferior. They make a **** good prodcut, sobeit at a higher price to them, but at a higher profit to you. Show them alternatives but dont force them on them. Ultimately, sell the customer what they want, that way they leave happier with that sense that JL is the god of audio and your company can profit the money. From your post, it sounds like you guys are new. If so, do NOT go against any motives in town, just try to survive for the first year and 2 and then start your own style after you've banked a good amount of money....

id say its a good idea but dont be 2 pushy as said before. Everyone who comes to me i mostly give them nonmainstream stuff but they have no knowledge at all so its easy

ssj- what is hostile about this plan?

Maxima- you have excellent grammar yourself, such as double-punctuation.

j3- We don't sell Rockford bro. The whole deal is persuading people. People don't think that Rockford is cool by themselves, somebody has told them that. When my boss has made a huge name for himself and the other store in town and a huge name for Rockford and JL, it's hard to reverse that. The company itself is new, but none of the employees. I'm the most new at is and I've been going for around 3 years, but I don't do the huge installs. I mainly do things like cd players and sell stuff untill I can aquire the ways of the boss. Making bank isn't a huge deal for us either because not even including our daily stuff, we do enough big projects to hold us over. For instance a 69 Camaro where we have an unlimited budget and we're doing COMPLETE interior. By complete I mean making everything, including the seats. A 300C with 15 screens and a huge system that is totalling around 25g's. We pull over a grand a day in just regular sales and installs and that's just on a slow day with no systems done.

California- this is exactly what I'm talking about. You throw out technical specs and comparisons of something like an Arc sub and somebody is just like ya well.... I like what I have. You put someone in a car with a ridiculously loud or good sounding system and the first thing they says is WTF is this stuff and when can you schedule me for an install.

PE- the whole idea behind our store is a cool laid back place to hang out. We're not all about shit stacked on shelves with price tags on them. The front room was completely built and is designed to be a nice cozy place to be. The idea is to get people comfortable and talk to them like they want to be talked to. For example some guy comes in and is all like "****in a man this is some sick shit" you don't say something like "well yes the thiele/small parameters of this woofer make it ideal for a small sealed enclosure"

I have learned a TON about sales and can say right now that you have to tell someone what they truly want, not what they think they want. For example we were doing a deck install and running amp wires for a guy in a Jeep and he was about to go across town for subs and amp because he had heard my boss does a good job and he heard some JL W3s that he though were cool. After some BS my boss says "hey man since we're already running wires why dont you let us hook up an amp and a box just to show you what our stuff can do." A Memphis PR500.1 and a pair of Memphis M1 subs later there was NO WAY this guy was leaving without the stuff. Just while we were setting up and down the guy was jumping around out front waiting to get a listen at it.

Anyways talked to the boss some more tonight and I think the system is in line. I'm about to start buying stuff. He's going to hook me up with the stuff pretty cheap and we're going to spend some hours after closing time getting a box and amp rack ready to go.

If anyone objects to this idea I'm all ears as long as there is some support to it. The idea is this will be a medium sized install demo vehicle to show people what their cars can do for a relatively low price.
