Yes it's thin wood, but that's ok, that was the plan, doing it this way, and then dressing the outside with fiberglass, to reinforce it, and to smooth it.

Cutting with the skillsaw at work made me so confident that next box will be built from 99% 3/4 MDF, cutting is not as bad as I thought it would be.

This box is intended to go down in the well, bottom of it, the trunk of my '91 Camaro, once that's done I'll do the plans for a ported box and build one, that way I can compare the two boxes.

looks sweet.

just remeber that fiberglass get its strength from the curves. so fiberglassing larger pannels of mdf wont become really strong unless you put alot of layers of fiberglass on it.

That's the idea, I cut the panels for the box, so right now it would be too small, width and depth wise, so I can add quite a bit of fiberglass mat and make it nice and thick.

First few steps of fiberglassing complete, had to make a stop here, since I ran out of resin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I didn't use an old t-shirt or fleece on the top, since I wasn't really going for the really curved look, if I had been, yup an old t-shirt would have worked just fine.

Now I'll let it dry, rough sand it all, smooth out the edges. and somehow hang it up from the speaker hole, so I can "wrap" it in fiberglass from all corners. I still haven't added any fiberglass t othe very bottom of this box.

Done, and installed. Ooops forgot to post new pics oh well.

This was my very first subwoofer box build and actually very first subwoofer install as well.

At first the woofer made almost no sound what so ever, I had to check it, to make sure it was even doing something, amp was lit up everything. Eventually it fired up, is this normal ? A brand new sub needs "charging" or something like that ?

I haven't adjusted it yet, any advice how to adjust the gain ? Not even going to touch the bass boost.

And what about poly fill ? How would it affect the sound ? Make it "woofier" or tighter or what ? Reason I'm asking, is the enclosure may be tiny tiny bit smaller inside than the recommended 0.75 cubic foot.

.
no way one of my boxes is 100% 3/4"mdf. who would of thought to do a silly idea like that, and on the gain setting there is a sticky for it, so just look. u should have used a the fleece method on that it would have been easier. and what sub did u put in it

Ya i am thinking about doing the same thing, right now im designing a ported box for my 84 Firebird, After it is done i will probobly get around to making a sealed box and then compare the 2. Im thinking about Fibreglassing the top of the sub box to make it look cool, any draw backs to doing this?

That's exactly what I did, fiberglass the top of the box.

Drawbacks ? Just don't make the surface real real flat, have some curves, fiberglass works better with curves.

I put a 10 inch Infinity 1042W dual voice coil in the box.

Hmmm that's a tough one right there, maybe make it a little bit smaller and if too small add some poly fill ?

Mine may be just tiny tiny bit too small so I may or may not add poly fill

I'll post some pics when I take them tomorrow
