My New Midbass Idea!

Alright currently this is what I have

custominstal001.jpg

Now I want to take this out...and get XXX mids...I have kickpanels, with my mid range speakers in them...and the XXX Mids are to deep for my doors...so now I want to replace that 8 inch with a pair of XXX mids in a fiberglass enclosure, right in the middle of my car like that.... Heres some questions....

1. Should I seperate them into their own chambers?

2. should I have them tilted up and side ways so it they're facing the drivers and passengers heads? or just straight up at the dome light?

3. how much do XXX mids go for usually?

i really doubt that it would be an improvement on what you have now. i would x over the subs at 50 x over that at from 40-180 then let your mid/tweet combo kick in at 170 on up

You want to change from a single mono midbass, to stereo midbass (good idea) but then mount them together in the center of your car? That's a good idea gone wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Midbass should be to your left and right as you sit in your car, not just from the center.

mid bass doesnt start going stereo until about 200 hz thats why i suggested keepig it x over low and have the midrange come in to pull out the higher freq between right and left. some people say when you cross over at 125 hz it starts going stereo but thats based on the slope so allow the mid to play into where the midbass does a tad

For reference, here's a quote from Scott Buwalda about his mono midbass setup:

"I ran the 12 in the middle of my dash up to 160 Hz, in mono, in the center of the car, and it seemed to do OK, but definetely dragged the images to the center".

Seems he doesn't agree with you, nor do any other experts Ive read/talked to. 200hz is very directional sound, Ive heard it with my own ears as well. *shrug*

And here's a comment from Richard Clark about the importance of midbass speaker location:

"guys------aiming midbass speakers is just about a totally useless effort since the radiated wavelenghts are long compared to the speaker size------what matters a lot is the placement of the speaker in relation to the other speakers in the system and the relationship to the listerers ears................RC"

Surely both these experts can't be wrong, audiolife. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Stuff becomes directional at around 60-70 hz.
starts but doesnt become for over an octive lol. also depends on what you put with it to pull it out to the sides //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif or isnt that not obvious?

What are you trying to argue? midbass IS directional and should be at either front side of the listener for a proper soundstage end of story.
