My Lancer OZ build Log ess queue

dude im really hoping the doors come out good. i know it sucks being a rookie (im one too) im just too nervous to cut my doors and mess them up! but it looks good. and im digging the purple LOL
Bondo on the doors ftw!
Other than that, lookin clean //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm diggin the DRZ-9255 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boink.gif.91933e72f927f2cefc79aff02573090c.gif
Haha, yeah the first attempt was not so pretty. I think that the latest go at it will be much more successful. Once I get some chopped mat on the front and back of the panels and do a little sanding/grinding, I'll be ready for some body filler and finish work.

Im not using that sh!tty Bondo this time around either. I have the good stuff waiting- Rage Gold and some Dolphin Putty.

re: the DRZ- Yeah, best sq headunit I've ever heard. Liked it better than even the (Denon made) Rockford RFX-8250 I had.

nice so far. where did you get that foam that you put on top of the mat?
The foam can be found at http://www.thefoamfactory.com

They sell rolls of open and closed cell foams, acoustic foam, etc at pretty good prices. The stuff I used in this build is the 3/8" neoprene foam which is a lightweight, bendable foam thats easy to cut.

I also used some 1/8" volara foam which isnt quite what you'd expect form seeing the pictures online. It appears in their pics to be a very flexible heavier weight looking foam but it is not. Its more stiff and doesnt compress as much as neoprene.

Actually, you may have been better off keeping the sony. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Man...I bought that thing a while back when I just needed to troubleshoot a noise problem I was having with another headunit and I thought maybe it was a wiring issue.

Still have the sony sitting in a box somewhere...

Man with all those photos I think I can do fiber glass now.. lol I starting thinking is this a how to thread... lol
GLWB looking great....
haha, yeah sometims I go overboard with the pics. Still, I guess its probably better to show a step by step in case others wanna give it a go, right ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Don't get it wrong I love photos.. Great job..

lol you messed up your doors did the install of the 8in so wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

and thsoe kicks

you said its about functionality but the imaging is so bad. I dont have to even sit in the car to know that the speakers cant sound good and even at that angle if they do sound ok i can just imagine what they would sound like if setup right.

you said you where going to install the speakers by first angling the speakers by listing to them in the premade baffles at the angle they sounded best then mount at that angle the baffle to the fiberglass/foam pod

but you didnt even do what you said you made a hack of a job with fiberglass and homedepot spray foam and just installed the speakers and hopped it sound good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

you have heart and dedication to do it right, but you should pay someone or get some help as your in left feild atm and the ball is in right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah, I did a poor job on the initial fiberglassing, which is why I'm doing them over. The install will be fine when its complete. Lemme guess...you would have done a door pod...right ?

I admit the kicks are looking shitty and they are not angled how I would want them to be. I said that in the thread if you bothered to read it (probably not though as you seem to be a a guy who "reads" to see the pretty pictures. Not only are you wrong about the sound of the vehicle, you dont know wtf you are talking about.

They sounded d@mn good even with the poor angling on my part.

That being said, those kick pods are going away. I plan to move the tweeters up to the a-pillars and I'm still up in the air about the midrange and which placement Im going for. You know what the car sounds like when you've never sat in it...thats impressive.

Were you there when I listened to and aimed the drivers? NO. I did aim the drivers, but in doing the molds/stretching the angle was off because I did a shitty job. These midranges have a nice off axis response and the sound was actually much better than I expected it to be given the off angling of the pods. They were never finished properly because I was not happy with the end result of the aiming.

I admit, it looks rough right now, but I am not finished...

We dont all have money to pay for a pro install. And to be honest, I prefer to learn how to do something on my own. I'd still be paying for head unit and amp installations if I didnt start off somewhere. We all have to learn in some way bro, it might be rough at first , but I'll manage just fine, thanks.

Relax bud, he is just giving you some constructive critiscm is all. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Maybe he could be a little nicer, but take it with either a grain of salt or to heart.....

Hell my tweets are in the doors........firing right at eachother and I think IMO they sound just fine. I am sure they would sound better with the right alignment and what not, but I don't have the time nor patience to do so.

Your build is coming along for sure. I have enjoyed it. Keep it up!
