My first recone was a disaster :(

what are you spectacle about? adding more power since they were just reconed? **** that! slam that shit!

when i reconed my SX with fi parts i dropped it in the next day and put it on my 1500d and beat the shit outta it. had noooo problems, even got the coils a little stinky //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

john are you the guy who had somthing (or maybe everything... hell, idk) to do with lms tech and TC sounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Well, I have sketches I did and FEA on the variable density coil from back in 2002 and emails back and forth with thilo discussing the idea if that means anything. We had started talking about it back shortly after Adire came out with the XBL motor. We wanted another option to get flat a flat BL curve without the drawbacks that XBL has. We originally talked about varied layers, 4 layers at the ends of the coil, 2 layers in the middle, to add more Bl further out in the stroke. Depending on how much you need you can add 8 layers at the ends, 6 i the middle, 8 at the ends, 2 in the middle, etc to get the Bl curve to look how you want. I approached Thilo with the idea and we started talking about it more. He said "what if we did variable density instead of just layers?" Essentially just a different way to accomplish the same goal. I did some more FEA to simulate that. At the same time I believe Deon Bearden was talking about the same concept with Thilo. Deon and I talked about it a little also.

At that part things stared falling apart for TC and they couldnt' deliver drivers like promised. I went my own way, just had to eat the money for 100 defective drivers, and Thilo did his own thing. Later he decided to pursue it and apply for a patent. Then when he was using it for Eclipse, they claimed to have invented it. Thilo was writing an article about the LMT and wanted to stick it to Eclipse for claiming to have developed it. He wrote in the article that the "genesis" of the LMT began over a period of time when Thilo, Deon, and myself began exchanging ideas. I believe the article did get published somewhere but I don't remember where. I do have the copy he sent to Deon and myself somewhere here.

So who should get true credit I don't really know as it was something we had all discussed. At this point I don't care too much. The article mentioned my name and that was enough for me. I have a new design planned out that will greatly outperform the LMT design. We're actually hand building the frames here. Plates get cut from 1/4" thick aluminum sheet on a waterjet. Cool thing is we can cut custom logos in the spokes for customers too. We then have a jig we put them in to hold everything tight and weld up the frame. The only issue I have is that neither of my two lathes are large enough to turn the spider and surround landings for this frame yet. I need to get a mill here shortly and could then do it on there with a turntable. There's always something more to spend money on...

Well, both subs survived my drive to and from work, so they have about 3 hours play time on them, I ran some good bass mechanic cd's to get some bass on them, they sound great.

I am starting to think my recone project was not so much a disaster. I did try to fix the gasket issue, but now, the left sub wont budge from the baffel //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif , I tried to pry that thing out, but its not moving, I think if I didnt put screws in, it would stay in there on its own //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif .

I ended up just putting the screws back in and leaving it looking foolish, looks like a badly tucked in shirt tail.

I also mounted my Kx2500.1 to the box so I was able to slide the box back a little more to get a little extra space in the trunk.

I thought my hybrids were nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif got some storm neo x2 motors with FI 10" baskets and recones... yours are nice too though.. definitely like the motors and know they have more power than mine... so altogether what did these set you back for the subs and the recones before all shipping? I'm thinking of getting HD3Cs possibly... I think I have vids of my hybrids in my sig and here's some pix //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I test them out from time to time... still more in them. the boxes are too big and tuned to high for them though probably going to cut the holes bigger and drop in 12"s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Your hybrids ARE nice! , I think my recones were $110 plus shipping for the soft parts and $20 plus shipping for the gaskets and baskets.

The konaki subs were another long tale, I will try to be brief, I bought one Konaki 12 bnib from a buddy for $130 shipped, then I traded for a 15" Konaki.

I cut the 12" konaki up and mailed it off to Fi for reconing..... USPS lost it, so I got a second konaki 12 from the same buddy, I traded him for that one.

It was quite an adventure to finaly get these subs up and running, it was fun in the end though.

Still waiting on the claim from USPS for the motor they lost!

Hey, thanks for posting the vids and the cool pics of your subs, looks like you did a great job on those!

I would like to thank these peoples for their assistance:

Visitor/02parkave: for hooking me up with my konaki's, for helping me out with the whole recone process, for encoraging me that I could in fact DO the recone myself, and for being an all around good buddy! Thanks alot Chad!

Nick from Fi: for his quick response to my emails and for his comments in my thread and helping me out with getting me my recone kits.

Scott from Fi: for the same as above, and taking care of my pending USPS claim for them losing my motor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif .

HawianBassHead for posting his cool pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would also like to thank all who posted in my thread, there where alot of good ideas posted that I can refer to when I do my next recone, I am also glad I didnt get flamed for some of my blunders //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif .

Thanks guys! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

They are still pumping, anybody know how I could get the t/s specs for them? I guess I would need one of those woofer testers from PA huh?

Strated a thread also on SSA asking Scott if he could estimate the rms from the soft parts he sent me.

Looked like Flat wind copper coils and 3 spiders.
