My first Do-It-Myself Audio system needs help please

Hi all...

I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander with a stupid stock system (stupid because it has a tape deck!) with JL Audio speakers. I researched headunits and the one I really like is the Pioneer AVH-P3200BT. I know they came out with a newer model, but I still like this one (and it's cheaper).

I then find out that I need to change out my speakers because the JL Audio speakers are not compatible?

So I decided to change everything and this is what I came up with:

Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P3200BT

Amp for speakers: Pioneer GM-6400F

Amp for sub: JL Audio 300/2 (i already have this from an older car that's just sitting around)

Front speakers: Pioneer TS-A1684R

Back speakers: Pioneer TS-A1604C

Sub: (unknown at this time because it's not with me, but it worked with my JL Audio Amp)

I made a nice little diagram for myself as i do to not like to start a project without a solid footing of what I'm going to do. If you want to see it, you can download it here: hotfile.com/dl/97531155/289ba4d/Build.pdf.html

I made this diagram before I read that I can use one wire to power both amps.

So here are my questions:

1. Do I need an amp for my door speakers or does the HU have enough power to make this sound okay?

1a. If I do need/want the amp for the door speakers, and the JL Audio 300/2 amp does not have a fuse, do I use a Power Distribution Block with a fuse in it? And if so, how big of a fuse do I use?

2. The stock system has tweeters in it, but according to any wire diagram, I do not see where these tweeters are getting their sound from. Where is it coming from?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you for reviewing my post!

The JL speakers will work fine with that unit...

You don't need an amp for the the fronts, but it would nice to amp them and bring them to full potential.

If you do decide to add the second amp, you can use a fused distribution block, OR you can use a non-fused distro block and add another inline fuse on that wire. I personally would just get a fused block since you have yet to make a purchase. I'm not sure what size you need there. If the JL has circuitry to protect it, you'll fuse to protect the wire. If it doesn't have this circuitry, you'll need to fuse for the amp, and I do not know what size you will need in that case. What size fuse did you have inline with it in the other car?

I didn't download your diagram so I don't know what you have going on. The components you listed for the front have their own tweeter so just use those. You'll have wire going from the amp to the crossover and from the crossover you will have a run to the mid and to the tweeter of the comp set. If you don't amp, substitute "head unit" for "amp" in that last sentence.

I thought I read that the JL Audio speakers were 2 ohms, and the manual for the HU said to use only 4-8 ohm speakers and NOT to use 1-2 ohm speakers...

I found the manual for the JL Audio 300/2 amplifier, and it did not mention at all if it has build-in circuitry, but it did say that I should put a 40A fuse within 18 inches of the battery. Is it safe to assume that it does have a fuse in it?

I have decided to go with a fused block and decided to go with 80 to 100A fuses (my calculations gave me a number of 79A i should protect).

I do not remember what size fuse I used in my other car, that wirework has been thrown out. i knew i should have saved the wires...
