After researching and posting on here, I've come up with a final build for my '05 Civic. I called a local shop, and they were able to price match many of the parts I was planning to buy online. Here's the parts list and pricing:

SPR-17S - Alpine Component Speakers in front

SPR-17C - Alpine Coaxial Speakers in back

SWR-1242D - Alpine Type-R 12" Sub

PDX-5 - Alpine 5-channel amp

CDA-9884 - Alpine Head Unit

Shop Pricing for Above Parts: $1025

Other parts: $145

*Dash Kit

*Wiring Harness

*4 Channel RCA Cables

*Power Wire Kit

12" Sealed Box: $60

Tax + Labor brings the total to $1540

How does this look?

i might be wrong but looks really overpriced

rip off./thread
Where am I getting ripped off? He matched the pricing pretty close to online prices...

For $1500 from the Classifieds you can get some much nicer shit. I personally prefer used things to new for the residual re-sale factor.
I'd rather buy new for my first build...don't mind shopping around for good prices, but I'd prefer new. Only way I'd consider used would be eBay, and even then I'm a bit hesitant.

It sounded high, but I can't figure out where anything is overpriced...I'm not doing the labor myself, so that's around $200 that will have to be spent. The Sub box costs $25 with $25 shipping online, not much way around that. The parts are pretty close to online pricing, except for tax (but he already gave me a good deal compared to many online stores). Only thing I can see is the dash kit, wiring harness, RCA cables, and power wire kit, but not sure what I can do about that...

Go online right now and get a Ed NinE.5 for $350 it destroys that alpine in output and costs way less.

Look Into Fi subs instead of type R and the HU and rear speaks as well as your components are gonna bo ok.

I very much appreciate help and suggestions; this forum is full of very knowledgeable people, and I am putting a lot of trust here. However, when I get a response that solely says "No" or "ripoff" and provides NO explanation as to why this is, in fact, a ripoff, I become discouraged. If you do not tell me where you think I am going wrong, or what you think I could improve...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

So those of you who are calling this a ripoff...why? I've stated previously that installing myself is not an option (~$200 right there). The shop matched (very closely) the pricing of online stores. So where else can I cut costs?

unless youre worried about the rear passengers , id ditch the rears and put the money in the fronts. as for subs , id go with fi. the ssd seems to be a pretty solid choice. but im kinda biased.

iirc, i spent around $8-900 on my setup and its pretty nice imo. for an extra 50 i could of went with the tsd components but i didnt want to worry about mounting the tweet and crossover so i went with the coax. the sub and amp were used , the rest new.

you should shop around a bit more and put more trust into buying used from this forum. as long as you research the buyer , you should not have any problem. the feedback subforum is there for a reason./
