My cool box

box itself isn't terrible for a first timer...but you can't really tell.

if i were you i'd rip that carpet off ASAP and find some other finish for it or recarpet it.

it really looks like you didn't give a sh*t about the outcome of it at all....really though....is it that hard to go grab any kind of knife like tool and shave down the carpet to where it doesn't have shaggy *** edges like that?

not horrible considering its your first...

and most of that looks like it can be cleaned up if you just take some time to shave down the carpet edges a little better, as stated above...

yeah i know the carpets at bit fuzzy but its also my first time working with carpet, and that shit is thick and tough to cut.
does it have a backing? i'm guessing so...

carpet with backing = no no for carpeting enclosures.

here's a tip...http://partsexpress.com

get the carpet w/o backing in w/e color and quantity you need....you can't beat their prices and shipping imo....

Yeah it has backing, I dunno I just had this carpet around from our house build, and I thought why not? And maybe plywood wasn't the best bet. But heck i'm going to try it out and see what happens, If it sounds bad, i will make a new one. W/E i'm bored.

well the backing is what killed you....it's no fun to work with.

but as long as you sealed it up well...it should sound good.

the good thing is you're learning from mistakes already and it's gonna make your boxes improve each time....

It's better than no carpet like some people have.
Some boxes look better without carpet. For example, Iamamp3pimp's birch boxes look pretty awsome without carpet. Bare MDF boxes looks really good with rounded edges and no screws. I always use carpet because I don't like to show the screws. Not that bad of a job for a first attempt; think of it as a learning experience.

Plywood isn't just "not the best bet"... it's flat out the wrong material. A sheet of 3/4" MDF is $22.... the proper carpeting is ~$10...

from what it looks like though the box is square and the hole is round... that's 90% of it. Now go buy the right materials and remake it... remember, glue & clamps is better then glue and screws..... just screws won't work.... besides screws + MDF = splits everytime...

and if you want to get creative with the covering try something like this:

instead of carpeting w/ backing
