not true about the frat thing. if the frat house is on campus the campus police have the right to enter whenever they want, no questions asked. if the house was off campus, then its a different story. well at least here at UF
The frat houses aren't "on campus" in terms of being by all academic buildings and dorms, but i'm not sure if the school owns the property the frat houses are on.
There was a previous incident last year when a frat got busted for underage drinking and the national chapter of the frat shut them down. The bad part was that the
SCHOOL gave all the guys in the house 4 HOURS to get all of their stuff out of the house. So everyone there had to scramble to get storage places and try to find a place to live (this was at the beginning of the 2nd semester).
The university and the frats haven't had the best relations over the past years. Things would be so much smoother if they went back to being a wet campus. Back in the '70's when it was, there were parties everywhere and keg races down the main streets that all the frat houses were on. I wouldn't doubt it if there were less issues with arrests too.
In my opinion, with a campus as small as ours (3800 students), we don't need our own police force. Hire a few rentacops to drive around in golf carts and have the valparaiso city police department cruise through campus now and then. Our police force is a joke anyways. There has been more and more crime over the years i've been here and the VUPD hasn't solved shit.
16 cars were broken in to in ONE NIGHT in the parking lot in my building, and the cops never tracked anything down nor did any actual detective work. And the bad part is that the parking lot cannot be any more than 300 feet from the police station. Luckily they didn't break into my car. From what i can tell, they broke in the car next to mine, opened up the door hard enough into my car to set off the alarm, and took off because of the noise. I was parked in the row closest to the building and all the cars that were broken in to were further away.
I think everybody else in my row should thank me for my alarm going off. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Anyways, i've never seen the VUPD do any actual investigation work for anything. And there have been more assault cases this year than any other year.
All i can say is that i'm going to the protest just too see how big it is and how much it really does. I could care less about the policies because i'm 21, live off campus, and going to graduate in a month. But i would like to visit one day and not get arrested for drinking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
