Music Genres

In terms of genre, I only discriminate against (commonly known) Classical, espescially the Romantic and Baroque periods. I do enjoy some 20th century compositions and early music on a rare occasion. Other than that, I'm open. I've record shopped weekly since I was a kid. Lately, I've been getting into Rai (Arabic pop music). I listen to commercial radio to see what's on the charts, though most of my exposure to new music comes from college radio.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has musical tastes thatare all over the charts. That's an impressive collection! At 16 it is safe to say I have no where near that many albums. I prefer mixtape and I'm really getting into chopped and screwed and slowed down music. Being in Florida thatis a big part of the Hi-Hop/Rap culture. But,as much as I love scrathing and computerized bass, nothing can beat the heart pumping sound of kick drums!

Just a taste of what I listen to.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nicleback, Santana, Savage Garden, Kenny G, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, The Lion King soundtrack, Elton John, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, John Denver, Ac/Dc, Coldplay, U2, The Eagles!, Gary Moore, The Wallflowers, Kenny Chesney, Barenaked Ladies, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Train, Bruce Springsteen, The Fray and many many many many more.

Thanks! FWIW, I only had ~250 records when I was 16. At the age of 45, There are probably ~6500 recordings scattered around the house. I've culled the collection quite a bit over the years. Acquiring 20-30 new recordings a month doesn't really help to keep the quantity in check.

When I was 13, I bought the (original, red cover) Rolling Stone Record Guide. By that point, I'd pretty much memorized every mainstream recording from the 50s on up, and this book opened the door to finding so much musical creativity that mere words fail to express.

That's when my peers pretty much stopped talking to me about music. My friends in high school were buying Styx tickets, while I was hanging out in a downtown dive listening to the Ramones on Friday and coming back for the King Sunny Ade show on the following night. It didn't exactly make me the most popular kid around. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You mean pretty much anything, other than the bulk of the music generated on planet Earth? Sorry, I couldn't resist. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
